I think the answer is that you don't have to do anything right NOW. You seem to have three choices: Sell your house and move in state, sell your house and move out of state, or don't sell your house at all. You could put your house on the market tomorrow and you still haven't done anything you can't get out of. If somebody made an offer, you could go from there. It's not like you can just pack up and leave tomorrow anyway, right? SO in the meanwhile, since you are torn about leaving, you may as well give staying an honest try. Then later, you can always re-evaluate. Just take it a day at a time.
i agree w/ meagan... i often make big life decisions by throwing several options out there for myself and then pursuing whichever one actually materializes. for instance, w/ grad school i applied to several programs out of state and got g all riled up about moving when i didn't even get into an out-of-state program! so that was silly of me to get everyone all concerned about a potential move when i found the perfect program for me just down the street. so why not pursue out-of-state and in-state job opportunities and see what materializes? in the mean time, you could talk to student loan peeps about making lower payments due to your income (economic hardship payments or whatever they call them- i've done it before). also re. your situation w/ the kiddos- have you talked to your work about possibly working only when the kiddos are in school and/or when j's home? just wondering! good luck, chica. :), christi c
This sounds so stressful, you have my sympathies there. I totally get the importance of family/community/roots, which is why we are looking to relocate back to MI. There is a lot I hate to leave (friends, being on a well, our CSA, etc), but I think we're making the right decision. The "right thing" could be so many things.
This isn't helpful is it?
What would I do? I'd pick my top 5 - 10 areas, use monster.com, craig's list, and see what those places had to offer. Send out your resumes and see what you get back. If you can find a good job making the money you need, then you can put the house on the market and go from there.
