I did not get accepted to work at the summer workshop that I was interested in. What's worse, though, is that I had to prod them by email to even get them to admit that they had already made their decisions. Apparently, they'll keep my CV on file for next summer. It was going to be so convenient, too; I would work on a problem that is pretty much ( Read more... )

Sucks. Best of luck finding somewhere else that will give you lots of money, ideally to do cool things.

No thanks to you, I rooted out my Franny & Zooey book, and have commenced a reread.

On a completely separate note, a question for you: you mentioned your commute. Do you use the Hopkins shuttle system at all? Do you like it? Also, do you like whatever neighborhood you live in? I'm going to be moving closer to that area soon, and I'm looking for neighborhood recommendations. I know depressingly little about where people who are not 40 and buying houses should/could live.

1. I have used the Hopkins shuttle system; it's convenient and clean. But I don't use it often because I live within walking distance of (Homewood) campus.

2. I do enjoy living in Charles Village. As above, it's roughly a ten-minute walk to class. I live in one of the many rowhouse->apartment conversions around here. There are college-aged and grad-student-aged people all around here, so I suppose the area is a reasonable place for someone our age to live.
