I went to the Lake District yesterday, with my Eng Lit class. It was good. We went to the poky little hole that is Dove Cottage (one time home of William and Dorothy Wordsworth, and quite often of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, along with many of their little friends, and then Mary Wordsworth, and her sister, Sara Hutchinson, who poor fat Coleridge fell ( Read more... )

Is Sociology any good? I notice from your user info that you took it, and I'm considering changing from Communication Studies to Sociology and therefore trying to gain as many opinions on it as possible.
Oh, and, uh, hey. ::grins:: I'm Kirsty. Nice LJ.

So I take it you go to Tynemouth College? If not, the teachers you'll get, and the topics you'll do will be different from what I've done. First year, I did poverty, the family, and research methods, which I also did coursework on. This year, I'm doing religion, crime and deviance, and possibly more coursework on research methods (although this year I'm doing the actual work, whereas last year I just designed it.

Sociology is interesting, as you get to cover relevant, and often controversial topics. You have to learn lots of theorys, but you also have to evaluate them, and learn their faults. In first year, this led to lots of heated discussion.

Last year I had Michelle, but she's leaving. This year, I'll probably have Tony or Debbie. First years'll probably get Tony. He's reputed to be not that good, but he seems like a nice bloke.

Classes are absolutely tiny this year. It was a really popular AS subject last year, but people kinda gradually dropped out.

Dove Cottage is tiny.

There is a nice walk to Easedale Tarn (and back) from there.

It's completely bizarre to read your journal, because it has the same colors and general format as mine. :)

I found you through gogglebrain, by the by.

Happy soon-to-be birthday!
