Ugh. Summer movie season can make me feel like such a dilettante. I really love the movies and now that I have switched jobs I am allowed to go "off the grid" for a couple of hours most evenings if I'd like to. I think I'm still in disbelief about that, so I have been sort of seizing free time with both hands, and spend most nights out and about ( Read more... )

But for every movie, there's a fic or two that just springs to mind right afterwards. I want to solve some of the problems lurking around the edges of Star Trek Into Darkness and Iron Man 3. Hell, I want to do it to The Great Gatsby, which made me see Daisy as a full person for the first time.

I SUPPORT ALL OF THIS even though Gatsby and Star Trek haven't come out here yet (at least Gatsby will be out next week...ST comes out in September here).

It feels somehow... disreputable to be lending headspace to several fandoms all at once?

I was going to scoff at this, but I've been feeling it a bit lately myself, and I'm only in three. I just always feel the weight of the disappointment of people wanting something I'm NOT posting more than the enjoyment of the people who like what I just posted...

He's also deeply extraverted, and thus has a hard time feeling ok with me lurking around writing and not interacting if he is awake when I'm around.

Urrrggghhhhhhhhh. *sends you some mental space and buffer*

I guess it kind of came to a head when I was strolling in to my screening of Iron Man 3 and the theater employee who helped sort out some troubles with the ticket machine out for us asked if I was a big Iron Man fan, and I said yes, and then miserably failed his excited and well-intentioned quiz on comics background, to his visible disappointment.

Ugh, uggghhh. I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but that seems really jackassy gatekeeping behavior. You can be a HUGE fan of something and only know the movies! I mean, comic books especially are the worst, there's so much crazy and contradictory background and honestly most of the books are rubbish! So eat your fandom peas with your knife and have fun, I say!
