Bureaucratic nightmare

So remember the Permesso di Soggiorno thing? That was due, like, a week ago? We just finally found a post office that would accept the application. And then we had to convince the woman, who spoke no English at all (luckily Leila knew the verb 'pagare' = 'to pay'), to actually let us pay. Yeah. She found out we were students and started ( Read more... )

I'm sorry that you are so worn out, but it sounds like such an experience that you are having! Reminds me of times when I would read Mely's entries from Germany as she tried to get some form signed or a post office to help when needed. I am jealous of you silly people, even if it is hard, at least it is European!!! It sounds like you are working hard, but don't forget to play hard, too... drink some lemonchello (I don't know how to spell that), and make eyes at a descendant of a Roman god (it's just looking ;-). My friends got a big kick out here when I told them that I have a theatrical physicist friend. I hope everything only keeps getting better. How long are you there? Caio!

'Limoncello' - lemon is 'limone', and 'c' in front of 'e' or 'i' makes our 'ch' sound, whereas 'ch' is the hard 'k' - and holy crap, it's good. Incredibly sweet, literally like an alcoholic lemon drop, but perfect for dessert. I'm all over the dessert liqueurs they've got here, though I've only partaken once; they generally drink either wine or water with meals, to the near-exclusion of all else, but at least among the people I've eaten with it seems rare that they drink anything stronger than coffee after dinner. (Then again, that's not saying much; Italian coffee is practically chewable.) Anyway, my point is that I don't want to be the one to say, "Yeah, I want booze!" and come off as a lush ( ... )

I totally know where you're coming from. Totally, utterly, completely. We can commiserate if you'd like, either over the intarnets or in person after you get back.

Though it's definitely a painful process, it does get better. And just wait until you get back here and start missing Italian stuff ^_^ Also, you should buy some (non-steel-toed) shoes while you're there, purely on principle!

LArissa! I don't have your e-mail address! So here is a LJ comment not about your post at all. I was wondering if you remember that student film we made at KU about the crazy cult thing. Did you ever get a copy of that film? I am just wondering if I can find one, because I wanted to see if there was anything from it that I could use on my reel, but I never got a copy. Anyway, I hope all is well with school. Blog about your life because I want to keep up. p.s. I was watching video from Greece the other night because it was in my camcorder... I'm looking into putting it on DVD, so I'll keep you updated on how that search goes.

Yeah, I never did get a copy, which I very much regret - she said she had one for me, but I never managed to meet up with her before leaving Lawrence.

I'm sorry; I do seem to be in one of those "off again" LJ phases, don't I? Now that Jacob lives in the Madison area, I don't spend as much time online anymore, and somehow I don't feel particularly sad about that... ^_~ Anyway, my UW email's really simple, just my last name @ wisc.edu. Good to hear from you; wish I could be of more help.
