i've do that too, especially when very tired: forget that i was still speaking out loud. and i think the pressure on "on the spot" newscoverage in general and sports announcers especially is to keep talking all the time, so if they're not careful, dumb stuff will emerge. i like to think that part of the problem is that they're so into the game that they don't remember what things are esoteric bits of knowledge and which things aren't.

although-- i can't decide which part of this is the weirder. "you can't steal first" or "you can't steal home". (i mean, CAN'T you steal home?)
