So, it’s Election Eve 2008. After spending the past 2 years following all of the ins and outs of this campaign, the election is finally upon us. That means that it’s every political junkies dream/nightmare: Prediction time!
In 2004, I called Bush’s 51%-48% victory exactly right and 49 states right in the electoral college. Ironically enough, I got Wisconsin wrong. I had it going for Bush by about 2,000 votes when it ended up going to Kerry by 11,000. Not too bad, but of course, I didn’t publicize it ahead of time so I had no bragging rights.
So without further ado, here are my predictions for tomorrow’s election:
Barack Obama/Joe Biden 52%
John McCain/Sarah Palin 46%
Third party candidates (combined) 2%
As for the electoral college, I have it at:
Barack Obama/Joe Biden 349 (Obama becomes the 44th President of the US)
John McCain/Sarah Palin 189
Obama holds all the 2004 Kerry states and wins Iowa, New Mexico, Colorado, Missouri, Virginia, Florida, Nevada and Ohio. McCain doesn’t flip any states.
If Obama does indeed win with 52% or more, it will be the largest Presidential win by any Democrat since the LBJ landslide of 1964.
(Note: Based on how the overnight polls look, I reserve the right to change my predictions ever so slightly. There are 4 states (North Carolina, Missouri, Florida and Georgia) that are genuine tossup. In my predictions above, I give GA and NC to McCain and MO and FL to Obama.)
DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!
