SETTING FAQ

Discedo is a big place. A lot of information gets discovered, and a lot of information gets lost. And hey, there isn't always an opportunity to mention things that don't tie into plots directly! This post, in conjunction with the
Setting & Information post, is meant to help make sense of the world you've found yourself in-the details and little questions about the city and area surrounding you can't find anywhere else. Feel free to ask questions in the comments!
What's the architecture like?
Many of the dwellings, such as the apartments and schools, have a more modern structure, using steel and cement. Others (the museum, the library, etc.) bear more resemblance to classical Roman structures. Some of the shops have a Gothic look to it, while others keep to the modern type.
Street signs are in English/roman letters, right? Since there are a lot of non-English speaks here.
Yes, the street names are in English with Greek lettering under it. The Greek letters, however, do not read in Greek-a Greek speaker would read it as gibberish.
What kind of literature is available? Libraries or otherwise.
There are a lot of books genuine to Discedo, written in English, Latin, and a few of Discedo's unique languages. The library has been burned down in an event, but books still remain in other buildings and locations. Most are weathered, ruined by water or mold, but specifics are available on request.
What kind of things can you be expected to find in the abandoned apartments (the ones that are still empty)? Old furniture? Rotting perishables?
Old furniture, the condition of which depends on the type. Metal/fake-wood beds are holding up pretty well, for example, while genuine wood furniture is either splintering or (at the player's discretion) filled with termites. The type of furniture is really up to the imagination, since no one person really has the same exact furniture. However, there won't be anything TOO high class; all valuable metals and such have probably been looted for the most part, and since apartments aren't exactly for the rich, most of the furniture will probably be the type you'd find at IKEA.
What exactly is the water situation? Is it possible for characters to do things such as bathe or wash clothes, or is there just enough water to drink? (And for that matter, is soap or any kind of cleaning agent available?)
The conditions of the water (such as whether it is safe to consume or not) is updated along with plot. Currently it is not really wise to drink much of it-it'll probably make you mildly sick-unless you boil it first. The scientists do provide soap; more information on that is
here.
What species are the trees of the forest?
The exact species is unspecified, but it's a tree unique to Discedo and looks much like a Boab tree. There are also trees along the lines of ones you'd see on Earth, native to the northern hemisphere.
Are the roads paved in Discedo?
Yes. Some roads are uneven from destruction, and some of the outskirts have dirt roads leading away from the city, but for the most part all of the main streets are still paved with asphalt. It's been paved with black asphalt, so on particularly hot days, you may want to make sure your shoes aren't worn down.
How abundant are paper and pens?
There is only one warehouse full of usable paper, so supplies are limited. Paper is rarely restocked, so make sure you use it wisely. Pens are fairly abundant, but again, are limited.
What materials/items might one find lying around the buildings or dragged around by any of the local monsters?
Most of the materials would be similar to Earth metals. Steel, iron, copper, aluminum, and nickel would be the most common metals. Concrete, brick, and stone are all used too. As for items, just look around your own home. What would still be standing after destruction? Lamps? Pool tables? Couches? Keep the type of building in mind, and you'd find the usual junk in there.
What do the markers in the graveyard say? Are they in English?
Names are (usually) in English, other etchings are either in Latin or Discadian. Names themselves span a variety of cultures.
In the hospital, would there be medical supplies and medicines no one non-native has heard of?
Yes. Most of it you could probably guess its affects by the surrounding supplies, but again, that's just a guessing game. Almost all medical supplies (save for a few key words like "antibiotic") are in Discadian or Latin. Luckily for you, the scientists have taken the liberty to label the shelves for you in both English and Japanese. If you speak another language, sucks to be you.
One specific medicine unique to Discedo:
Larrgadi Miracula: THE CURE TO BREAST CANCER AND MAYBE OTHER TYPES OF CANCER. It's actually a specialized parasite (eukaryotic type) that has a 91% success rate of adjusting with the body to feed on cancerous cells. The other 9% has a horrible, horrible reaction that leads to hemophelia, AIDS-like symptoms (due to lack of white blood cells), and often in these cases, death.
If you accidentally take it, it will either just die in your body, or mutate and KILL YOU.
Any and all magazines/CDs and so on are probably ruined, but what kind of culture did Discedo have?
In a lot of ways, it's similar to Western cultures. Equality, obsession with the media, those types of things are the norm. However, the specifics of each contain a hint of ancient culture (for example, chariot racing being a popular sport) and unique Discedo culture.
What remains in the church?
Pews, the pedestal, a stained carpet, and a few broken stained glass windows. In the back are some empty offices and what was once a nursery; wallpaper aside it's also empty.
Why is Discedo/Fortuna so similar to Earth? (Speaks English, Earth literature, Catholicism, etc.)
YOU'D LIKE TO KNOW, WOULDN'T YOU? The reasons for this may be revealed later. Or maybe it just is. You never know.
What do the moons look like, and how long are their respective lunar cycles?
There are two moons in Discedo. The closer moon is a pale white much like our own, but it's easy to see that there are significantly less craters. The farther and larger moon is a navy blue in color with no visible blemishes, and is visible most of the day and night. The first moon makes a complete orbit about every 27 days; the second one's orbit is significantly slower (about every 50 days).
Is Discedo in the northern hemisphere, or the southern hemisphere with an opposite axial tilt as Earth? Speaking of which, how much is the axial tilt/how extreme are the seasons?
Discedo is in the Northern Hemisphere, though the exact location has not been given. The axis tilt is the same as Earth's. Weather conditions are unstable. Most of the time it may be mild and calm, other times violent storms may erupt. Excessive storms and natural disasters will be announced through mod notices, and daily weather will soon be given.
What's the sun's name, how does it compare to Sol, and how far is Fortuna from it?
The sun doesn't have a given name (or if it has, it's been lost in time) and it is approximately the same distance as our sun is from Earth.
Is the native Fortuna life (fish, plants, etc?) the same as Earth's, unique, or both?
Both. Original flora and fauna have yet to be revealed.
How are Fortuna humans different than Earth humans?
Not at all.
Are there bugs in Discedo?
Most abundant are, of course, bacteria. Be sure to cook your meat properly; wouldn't want Mr. E. coli to come pay you a visit, would you? Parastic insects including lice, ticks, fleas, and mosquitoes are extremely common, especially in densely populated areas. The native parasites are also sturdy enough to survive on many of the monsters here, so be careful when fighting off those dogs. Other insects include (but are certainly not limited to) cockroaches, termites, and ants.
Do the apartment rooms have windows?
Yes.
