It's been a few days since running into those monsters, and calling out sick the next day worked wonders. Today's been David's first day back at work and it was surprisingly low-key. He didn't get nearly as much flak about calling out as he thought he would, and the deliveries were all nice and quiet. All in all, a perfect day.
... Well, perfect except for the fact that he was followed again. And it was the same guy, too. Black clothes, baseball cap, the guy's been following him for almost a week and a half now. At first he thought it was just his imagination, since every time he'd go back there was nobody there. But after making a delivery watching from the corner of his eye, he knew better. David was hoping his hiatus might've convinced the guy to go stalk some other delivery kid, but nope, he was back and following just behind like nothing had happened. He hasn't told El or Nick, or even Miss Cordy. But after today, he's seriously considering it
( ... )
"Yer on th' clock an' a drunk biker don' look righ'" Ellis simply reasoned and took a hearty gulp of his drink. And to answer David's question, he held firm what he was taught when he was a kid so the rest is just noise he could tune out. It felt weird tinkering with the cars and not have Keith holler at him about some ridiculous (in Nick's mind) plan to beat boredom. It was evident, especially to Miss Cordy, that El missed his best friend dearly...and seeing him be Samael's mouth was painful.
"Meanwhile, Nicky an' I are off an' I can't wait until he shows me what he stole last week." It's a life. "Who was tha' guy though?" "I have no idea but I'm watching him. How was your day?" The conman replied rather nonchalant; he caught the man writing on a notepad and reading A New Home pamphlet, handed out by PNCA members.
"I'm not the one who made a homemade bumper car ride with riding lawn mowers." David retorted, nevertheless taking a swig of his Coke. Nick only serves his Coke in bottles, which is a pretty cool touch; before he came to Austin, David had never actually had bottled Coke before. Then he realizes what he just said and wishes he could take it back - he's noticed the chance in El's behavior ever since they started using Keith as a 'spokesman,' and it doesn't look like they're gonna stop anytime soon.
"Same old, same old..." he answered automatically in response to Nick's question, before reconsidering that. Ah, hell. He's ignored it long enough. "There was a guy following me though... kid about my age, maybe a little older. It's not the first time I've seen him either."
"Tha' was fun though," Ellis said, not missing a beat, especially when he heard about the young man describe the stalker. Nick noted it and shot an eyebrow at that. "Did you trade routes with anyone and he still followed you? Odds are they're both from the same place but barely anyone knows we three live in the same place."
"El here had an incident a while back with a customer who started asking questions." It was an unspoken law in City 17 that no one asked how each other made it out alive; most if not all were living nightmares people wanted to forget. But the young, yuppie couple kept asking the mechanic until Nick intervened the only way he knew how: by smacking his ass and telling him he was "dry". The woman had the nerve to say "You people are the reason God punished us."
