Question: Why are all of the cool comic-book related conventions, where I could actually allow myself to go all fan girly, and possibly learn something useful, are outside of Alberta?

Answer: Because Alberta is pretty much the shithole of Canada where nothing nice ever comes to Edmonton. Except for anime conventions. Thankfully we have those.
