2. So I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It was... pretty good. Interesting. I guess I expected it to be a bit better. The Oompa Loompas were weird. Didn't like them all that much. But I LOVED Johnny Depp in it. He was awesome as Willy Wonka! And ( Read more... )

I saw The Notebook recently (and read it) and was sorely disappointed by both. I was really expecting to love it, because I'm sure you know I'm a sucker for romantic movies, but Rachel McAdams annoyed the hell out of me.

Awww, I'm sorry to hear that. Did she really? How so? I loved her in it.

You see, I had watched the movie first, and loved it. But then I read the novel and didn't like it at all. Dunno why.

I read half the novel, then watched the movie, then finished the novel. I cried at exactly the same part in both movie and book, funnily enough, but I thought the book and movie could have just been so much better. I don't think Rachel really nailed Allie for me. But yeah, so many friends had recced it so I was disappointed!

For me, I think that maybe the fact that I had seen the movie first (and enjoyed it), made the novel less interesting for me when I got to reading it. Somehow, I found myself liking the little changes they made in the film, better. *shrugs*

But I know what you mean about being disappointed in something when so many of your friends have recced it! Because then, it's as if you end up feeling like you expected more from it, as opposed to what you really got out of it.

4. Books recs, anyone?

If you haven't already read it, you HAVE to read Eragon by Christopher Paolini. Summary from B&N:
When Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy; perhaps it will buy his family meat for the winter. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself. Overnight his simple life is shattered, and he is thrust into a perilous new world of destiny, magic, and power. With only an ancient sword and the advice of an old storyteller for guidance, Eragon and the fledgling dragon must navigate the dangerous terrain and dark enemies of an Empire ruled by a king whose evil knows no bounds. Can Eragon take up the mantle of the legendary Dragon Riders? The fate of the Empire may rest in his hands...I'm about 3/4 of the way through, and it is AWESOME. If I had to describe the writing style, I'd call it a cross between HP and LotR - the style is a little more... I guess you could say advanced ( ... )

No, no. Fangirl away! :) I don't mind at all. hehe.

But yes, I HAVE heard of this book. Actually, I think I saw Christopher Paolini on Jay Leno when he went to promote his book. Fantasy, eh? Well, I've started on Wicked, but I'll definitely add this to my list. Thanks, Jacy!

Oh! I own a copy of The Five People You Meet in Heaven! Read it two years ago. Interesting book. It made me cry. Pretty sad, huh? If you liked that, I think you might like The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. I should warn you though, it has a darker element to it; you'll know what I mean once you read it.

I haven't read Tuesdays with Morrie though. I heard it was similar to TFPYMiH. Is it? Ah well, I'll add it to my list anyway! Thanks for the rec, Mel! :))
