It depends on your definition of "speak English". If you only want to be understood, indeed, speaking is easier, although you can also write texts just to be understood. Speaking fluently and correctly is much harder than writing since you need the same knowledge of the language but the time is limited.
As I can see reading comments to your previous post, this is a problem not only for me :)
