The Gold Cup

Last month I finally visited the British Museum for the first time since the British Library moved out to St Pancras. Crossing the forecourt I enjoyed musing on Raffles and Bunny's visit in 'A Jubilee Present' (TV episode 'The Gold Cup').

Thank you so much for posting this tidbit! It's been too long since I was at the BM so I'm about due for another visit. I shall make a point of going to see this!

...Having reflected further, I think this was the gallery I last visited, as a friend of mine was involved in its installation. *Resolves to ask friend*

But, as you say, what is interesting is the light this sheds on the genesis of the story and Hornung's compositional practices. Thanks again!

It's a superb gallery, in that there's not too many different items, but each one is very special in some way (the oldest, the most valuable, the best preserved...)

There I was feeling disappointed that the preceding, early medieval, gallery was empty, being redeveloped. Then I found this cup, and later (almost too late) found some highlights the early medieval stuff on temporary display in Gallery 1. So a successful visit after all.
