Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Thin as a stick-okay no, not really. Sort of. Except he is rather slender, complete with curves and all, yep.
Tiir’s also not very tall. Assuming the character bio pictures are to scale-and from what I can tell, they are, roughly-then he’s one of the shortest males in the series. Granted, he’s not that much shorter than Ryner, who’s stated to be tall, so maybe he’s just average and everyone is tall…?
Though I also went and compared his height to Minato using official art shhhh I am not weird and it looks like they’re around the same height, so going by what Cal said for Minato, he’s around 5’7” or so.
… I guess that is short, considering his age.
2. How old is he?
… Or at least that’s what I would say if I knew his age. :D; He could be anywhere from 18 to 24, to be honest. I doubt he’s older than Luke, who’s 25, or younger than Calne, who’s 18, so.
If I had to narrow it down though, I'd say about 19-20...?
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
Well, he doesn’t really slouch much, unless he’s feeling casual. Generally, he carries himself straight, though not necessarily in a high-and-mighty manner. That might sound surprising to some, but the thing about Tiir is that he doesn’t feel the need to come across as imposing-he already knows that he’s badass, so.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Well, Tiir is technically perfectly fit and healthy.
… Since when you have super strength/speed/endurance/etc. and your body is constantly healing itself, I imagine that it would be tough to be out of shape or sick.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Very graceful! It’s especially obvious
when he’s fighting, as someone who fights purely hand to hand and thus is quite used to moving around and dodging and the like.
And considering that he can jump to the tips of tall trees without any problem, you can bet that he has amazing balance.
And seriously, this jump probably defies gravity. 6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
He’s rather pretty (gosh, between this and his build, isn’t he just the epitome of masculinity here-).
He doesn’t really think much about it though…? I mean, he’s probably at one point vaguely acknowledged it, but considering all that goes down in his life, whether he’s attractive or not is rather insignificant.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
He’s definitely on the light side, being one of the palest characters in his canon.
It’s probably safe to assume that he also has no scars, considering his regenerative abilities.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
It’s jet black, to begin with, with bangs-especially in the centre of his face. Some of it frames his face, with the back of it reaching halfway between his chin and shoulders. He also has this strip of hair on the right side of his face that curls slightly inwards and reaches past his shoulders. It’s what keeps it from otherwise being a fairly normal hairstyle, really.
9. What color are his eyes?
… This is a tad complicated. Going off purely the anime, since the light novels might differ-
Normally, they’re blue. A dark night blue-ish kind of shade, to be specific.
However, when he’s invoking his Iino Doue, they’re black and red. To elaborate, they’re completely black, save for the glowing red cross and ring across them. No iris or anything.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
None.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
I will never understand this question.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
He wears a black longcoat with a rounded Mandarin collar, floppy sleeves, and blue trimming, a long-sleeved black shirt underneath, black pants, and black shoes. It’s slightly different in the light novels, but since he’s from the anime, I won’t get into that.
… In short, he likes black, apparently.
And, well. Pretty much everyone suffers from Limited Wardrobe in this series, but he’s a particular noticeable example, since, depending on how long ago he met Claugh (in the anime, that is), he might’ve been wearing the same outfit for years. Yep.
Granted, he’s often travelling, so multiple outfits would be inconvenient. And while it seems that he does have money, I can’t imagine that he has a lot of it, so I doubt that he’d spend it on something as trivial as clothing.
Anyhow, it’s fairly elegant, which suits him. It’s not particular convenient for fighting, sure, but he doesn’t need for it to be when his own skills make up for that. He probably likes layers and clothing that covers a lot of skin.
He’s also got to be really good at washing bloodstains out-
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
Again, he has just that one outfit, so. Yes, he’s obviously comfortable in it if he keeps wearing it. It fits him well too, as it’s not too tight, but it’s obviously not too loose either seeing as how you can tell how slender he is in it. o/;
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
One outfit. :|;
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
… Boxers…?
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Normal…? Well, to a given degree of normal, at least. It varies depending on the situation, since the way Tiir behaves also varies greatly depending on the situation. The most concrete one is that it’s a bit more high-pitched when he’s talking to the children under his care, in that “I am being as polite and cheerful as I can!” kind of way.
Anyway, he can go from sounding like a creepy bastard if he’s, well, being a creepy bastard, hoarse if he’s kind of pissed off, or… normal if he’s being normal. Wow, this is the most amazing answer ever.
Just watch any clip of his in the anime for reference, I guess. In a more concise answer, he’s voiced by Takahiro Sakurai.
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
Easily. He pretty much never hesitates and always talks like he’s absolutely sure in what he’s saying, even if he isn’t-not that he’d ever tell you, mind you.
Otherwise, it again depends on the situation. He’s prone to raising his voice while fighting, usually in an excited manner, but he can talk normally too. Not particularly quickly or slowly, I’d say.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
None really.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
… He speaks the language of LOLHeroes, which is similar to English in terms of the written language but not quite (someone’s actually compared the two and figured out which letter is which).
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Nope.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
Very good impromptu speaker-he pretty much never thinks about his words, to be honest. That’s not to say that he just rambles about whatever, but words come to him easily.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Again, he’s rather eloquent, not being the type to stutter or hesitate or whatnot. He tends to get wordy at times, particularly when he’s talking about humans and how they can never get along and ~despair~ and ~suffering~ and all that nice stuff that makes up his world.
… The exception to this would probably be when people are trying to mindscrew him in Vat, because he’s simply not used to normal humans being kind to him. This isn’t something that happens very often in his canon though, where he’s generally proven right in that humans are jerks.
In general, he tends to drop some of the sophistication when under stress or in a tense situation.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Mainly street-smart. Any academic smarts probably come from whatever education he had as a child and whatever he could teach himself over the years, since he very likely hasn’t had proper schooling in a long, long time.
And so, on the other hand, he’s been surviving on his own for most of his life. Therefore, he’s pretty knowledgeable in, well, how to survive-which is understandably very useful in a world that would rather ensure that he doesn’t. He’ll do whatever it takes to make sure that he and his friends stay alive, and so he really can’t afford to not be street-smart.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
He thinks on his feet. If he’s in a situation where he can, he might deliberate, but otherwise, he makes decisions as fast as he can. After all, he’s completely assured in his beliefs (or at least he thinks he is), so he doesn’t need to debate his options for long. He can clearly see the path that he wants to take, and for what he can’t see, he has Ene to tell him what to do.
Ultimately, he’s the kind of guy who single-mindedly moves forward.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
He’s very intuitive. I mean, he tries to be logical when he can, but for the most part, he does whatever he feels like doing, and this applies to his thoughts and the like as well. Again, he’s the kind of person who’s rather confident in himself (or appears to be), so if he thinks something is the right answer just by gut feeling, he’ll go along with it.
… He is, in a way, both severely cynical (if not overly so) and yet idealistic in certain areas. Considering what his world is like and what he had to grow up dealing with, it’s hard to blame him for developing a rather pessimistic outlook on life-on humans in particular. He’s convinced that there’s just about no good in them, or at least not when it comes to his kind. As far as he’s concerned, they’ll always despise, use, ridicule, chase out, and betray Cursed Eye bearers, and so there’s no point in trusting them or trying to live in harmony with them.
(… Granted, one could argue that it’s not completely pessimism when he’s actually kind of right.)
He’s prepared. In a sense, he’s always prepared to be attacked or hurt. Not in the sense that he’s never caught off-guard, since he often can be, but it doesn’t really surprise him. He lives in a kill-or-be-killed world-especially as a hunted ‘monster’. He doesn’t have a permanent home, as he and his friends move out every once in a while, presumably so that they have a smaller chance of being attacked.
However, he is rather idealistic when it comes to other Cursed Eye bearers, if not to the point of naivety. He’s aware that they can make (what he perceives to be) stupid decisions, yes, but he still views them through rose-coloured glasses in that he sees them as better than humans. Even past his obsession with their ‘superiority’, the fact that he believes that humans will always betray them implies that he thinks his friends would never do the same. It doesn’t matter if he’s just met one-he’d already be willing to bet his life on the currently somewhat non-existent connection with them.
That bit probably stems from a hidden desperation to not be alone, to be honest. Chances are, he feels that humans have hurt him enough to the point where he just. Kind of wants to believe that there’s a group of people out there who will just about unconditionally not hurt him?
Simply put, he believes in his own kind. What he doesn’t believe in are humans-or even the world itself. After all, neither has given him a reason to.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
He’s probably had basic schooling from when he was very young-I can’t quite decide whether he’d have gone to an actual school (read: whether anyone would’ve even let him) or if his father just home-schooled him.
Either way, not much at all, to be honest.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
… Killing people…? No really, he’s very good at slaughtering others. One of the best in his canon, even-
… But yeah, otherwise, there’s nothing he’s really an expert on.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Complete and utter extrovert. Considering his horrible luck with friendships as of late, one would expect him to develop attachment issues, but nope. He loves to make new friends (provided that they’re Cursed Eye bearers, of course) and happily gathers more.
Again, this probably comes from the fact that the world otherwise hates him, whether justly or unjustly, so. He wants to at least remind himself that there are some people who actually like him…?
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
He’s pretty even-tempered. He can take things as an insult easily and will consequently get pissed off (mainly at things like actually getting injured, despite his healing abilities), but he’s quick to switch back to smug/the emotion-equivalent of such. Overall, he generally has a default mood for each situation, save for things like, uh, his friends getting slaughtered. Then sure, he’ll range from shocked to furious to determined and whatnot, but that’s hardly unusual.
… Truth be told, this kind of stems from the fact that he’s, well, broken, and as such, somewhat dead inside. By this point, he’s dealt with so much that he’s come to essentially react to everything using the same handful of emotions, depending on the circumstances, as said.
Moving on, he’s fairly cheerful. In a smug sort of way around humans and in a more genuine around his friends, that is. Or at least to a given extent of ‘genuine’, seeing as how he has his fair share of Stepford Smiler tendencies. It’s sort of mandatory when he’s dealing with the children, since for their sakes, he pretty much has to appear happy all the time to keep their spirits high. Even aside from them though, if he’s suffering, he’ll still often try to come across as perfectly fine. He drops some of the mask around those he knows especially well, but even then he still hides some of his feelings. He’s less… smiley, for a lack of a better word, but he’ll still deny his own sorrow-even to his leader and likely closest friend of 10+ years, who really knows him better than that by now.
He’s also very driven. He has a goal, and while there isn’t really anything he can actively do to achieve it at the moment, he’s determined to reach it one day. He’s also pretty much the right-hand man of the leader of the God’s Eyes bearers, and seeing as how they deal with things like the ~fate of the world~, being laidback isn’t much of an option. He’ll do whatever he can to change the world for the better.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Generally either enthusiastic or relaxed, since there’s very little he’s actually afraid of. Again, he’s an extrovert, so timid doesn’t suit him at all, and, well. He’s already convinced that humans can’t be trusted, so you can argue that he’s suspicious, yes, but… he already knows that there is nothing that will make him trust them, so. He continues acting as he always does.
In any case, he adapts.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
Act. He charges ahead with his life and is out to make his own meaning, really.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Fight. He’ll leave a battle if he doesn’t feel like fighting and it’s only him involved, if he knows that he doesn't stand a chance, or if it’s for his friends’ sake (such as escaping with them), but he enjoys a good fight.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
… Well. When as he hangs around with children, he’s probably learned to take most things in stride and developed a certain sense of humour. He’s not really much of a joke kind of person, but he’s not a no-nonsense kind of person either.
… Also, it’s important to keep in mind that he has a very odd sense of humour at times. He’s the kind of person who will laugh when humans do despicable things because he happens to very much enjoy being proven right. C:
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
… Schizophrenia…?
Welp. Tiir’s, uh, had a voice in his head from before he was even born. It tells him to eat people. He obliges.
… Does that count as a mental disorder?
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
From when he was in his mother’s womb, he hears a voice that tells him to devour her. In short, his Iino Doue awakens, defining him for the rest of his life.
At another point afterwards, he meets Ene, and they presumably are the ones who form the faction of God’s Eyes bearers, giving Tiir a purpose in life.
14. What does he fear?
… Nothing really? There is very little left to fear that he either has not gone through already or has no reason to fear.
Losing his friends? Been there, done that. At least thirty-eight of them (excluding the most recent attack), in fact, and Ene will probably join their ranks soon enough.
Dying? Like he’s ever had any reason to value his life.
And so on and so forth.
The only thing that he might fear is ultimately being proven wrong in his beliefs, as he’ll probably finally truly break when that happens. As someone who tends to think in extremes, if he can’t accept what he thinks he believes in, then all that’s left to believe is that the world is right:
That he’s just a monster that never should have been born.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
He wants to create a world where his friends can live peacefully.
… He doesn’t aim low, nope. But really, what else could he possibly hope for, in a world that gives him very little and happily destroys what it does give him?
So yes. He’ll change the world, since it’s not worth living in otherwise. In short, he’ll either have to achieve world peace or kill every single human. I don’t imagine he’s particularly picky on which one it is.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
Just how damaged he really is. Ene’s pretty much the only one who knows, being Ene, since he does his best to hide it from everyone else.
But for all of his smirks and smug behaviour, he really is rather insecure and self-loathing.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
… He devoured his mother before he was even born.
And headcanon states that he killed his dad.
… Welp. I think that just about sums it up.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Somehow, I don’t think he had any siblings.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
WORLD HATES HIM. The end.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
He considers his friends his family? Or, well, mostly the children under his care, I guess, as at least one of them calls him “Brother Tiir.” And while he is indeed a big brother figure to them, he’s also the closest thing they have to a parent (or had, seeing as how most of the ones we meet are dead. He probably has/finds more in other places, but who knows?).
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
… This is headcanon, really, but I assume that Ene is his closest friend. It’s heavily implied (if not outright stated, depending on how you interpret a certain line in the light novels) that they’ve known each other for ten years, which is, well, half of Tiir’s life. He’s very obviously loyal to her, and while he may not believe in everything she says, he’ll still follow her orders without question. Oh, and kind of fret over her health, which is understandable, seeing as how she’s essentially dying and he kind of knows it.
… Like I said, Tiir really does have rather horrible luck with his friends.
6. Does he have other close friends?
It’s hard to say, because it also depends on what his lifestyle is like. He’s presumably been with Lafra and co. for a while, but there’s the question of where Ene was and the fact that he’s seen with other Cursed Eye bearers in the ending sequence of the anime (and judging from lines in the light novels, Lafra and co. aren't the group that was slaughtered before-they seem to all be dead). So, we can assume that they’re not his only friends. He might switch from group to group, or he might’ve had a personal fondness for that one in particular...?
… Not that any of this matters, because his friends have that unfortunate tendency to die. Joy.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
… Well, humans hate him-again, for just or unjust reasons. Him slaughtering them obviously doesn’t leave a good impression, but this is the world of LOLHeroes and most of them would still hate him even if he were the nicest guy ever, so.
He gets along great with other Cursed Eye bearers though. He’s pretty friendly towards them, so as long as they don’t mind his psychopathic tendencies towards humans, things should be good.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
His friends kind of are his family?
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Single, with the chances of him getting married anytime in the near future being very slim. Maybe once, you know, people accomplish that whole ‘world peace’ thing, things might change.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Noooope.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
Doubt he’s ever had a crush. He’s always had bigger things to worry about, really.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
Not looking, and to be honest, I doubt he himself really knows. He’s just. Too deep in denial to really be able to see even himself clearly.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
He has/had children under his care, if that counts. He adores them and they adore him.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
… Well, Claugh hates him and has sworn to kill him one day, but Tiir doesn’t really think anything of him beyond “lol humans whose arm I wrecked in the past (and then ate in the present just to be a jerk)”.
Whom Tiir hates, on the other hand, is the country of Gastark for hunting his friends and harvesting their eyes. Lir in particular is at the top of his hate list.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the
Kinsey scale?
1 or 2...?
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
Doesn’t think about it, as it’s not really a priority.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Noooot answering this question ever.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
I don't know if his world even follows our calendar, so.
If it did though, I'd peg him as an Aquarius or a Scorpio and Year of the Rat...?
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
… In a way, he’s very spiritual, but not necessarily in a positive way. He believes that there is some kind of higher deity, given that he and Ene call their eyes ‘God’s Eyes’, and he apparently considers the voice in his head to essentially be orders from God. Note, however, that this does not necessarily mean that they’re ultimately loyal to this so-called ‘God’. If anything, Tiir kind of resents whoever ‘created’ them, because his oh-so-wonderful eyes have really caused more problems than they’re worth.
So Tiir is spiritual because some kind of higher deity/deities has quite a bit of influence on his life, but he has rather conflicted feelings on it, when you get down to it.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Humans suck.
His friends are the best.
… In a more eloquent manner, he will accept you if you’re a Cursed Eye bearer, even if he thinks you’re the biggest idiot in the world-partly because he knows that, as someone others especially consider to be a monster, he can’t really judge. He also would never betray or maliciously hurt his friends (hurting them for what he perceives to be their own good is fair game, however). This is something he despises about humans, after all, and so believes himself and his kind to be above it. Besides, humans have hurt them enough without needing them to hurt each other as well.
As for what would it take to compromise it…? Nothing, really. He just. Won’t. He’d rather kill himself than become as bad as the very same people that he hates (even if he kind of already has).
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
… He’s both tolerant and intolerant. He accepts that Ryner still sees himself as human and doesn’t blame him for it. Sure, he believes that Ryner will see things differently eventually, but he doesn’t discriminate against Ryner for sympathizing with humans.
That being said, he refuses to change his own beliefs and while he accepts that others might think differently, he can’t accept that he’s actually wrong. He’s very rigid in that.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
… In case it wasn’t obvious by now, he really, really hates humans. Or, more specifically, normal humans since he’s technically human, but he won’t acknowledge that. It’s gotten to the point where he actually seems kind of desperate in his hatred-presumably because otherwise, he’ll break, as said.
It’s… sadly more rational than it might seem to someone from a more peaceful world. The majority of people in his world really are just as bad as he makes them out to be, unfortunately. Of course, there’s a certain degree of irrationality, in that not every single human is a despicable bastard, but his reasons for hating humans so much is rather understandable, considering all that they put him and his kind through.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
… See, that would require living among humans, as there aren’t really classes among Cursed Eye bearers. He seems to have money, but ultimately, he and his friends live away from humans, so.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
… Does ‘the world hates him’ count as a class…?
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
He doesn’t have a home. Again, he and his friends are constantly on the move, since living in one place for too long is dangerous for them.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
… Stuff for his friends and the kids, probably. As he travels a lot, he can’t really spend his money on things for himself, since he wouldn’t be able to keep hem.
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
… He follows Ene’s orders? He’s trying to change the world? Hard to say how good he is at it, and, well. It’s not so much that he enjoys it as it is that he has to believe that he can do it-because, as said, it’s not worth living in otherwise. Things will never get better for him and his friends if they can’t achieve the peace that they want.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
Killing and eating people, yep. He attacks random villages once in a while when he’s hungry.
Otherwise, when he’s not carrying out tasks for Ene or seeking out other Cursed Eye bearers, he’s actually a pretty normal guy. Hangs out with his friends, looks after the children, and all that.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Well, he’s the one who mainly prepares the meals for him and his friends, so when he’s with them, he makes sure to eat properly so that they all do too.
And even when he’s not with them, he doesn’t really make it a point to skip meals, since he doesn’t see why he should starve himself. He might not necessarily eat a proper meal, since he doesn’t have an unlimited supply of money, but he’ll try to eat enough to keep him going.
He doesn’t drink. Bad example for the kids and no point in hindering his judgment like that.
… Let’s not get into his other eating habits.
