Vampires and zombies, or rather, entertainment and novels about vampires and zombies which is after all where zombies and vampires reside, right?, kind of bore the shit out of me. Always have. Which leaves space for the exception to the rule. Which is, Charlie Huston's vampire quadrology. I got onto Charlie Huston through his (non-vampire, ( Read more... )

Will look for his stuff.

By the way, I thought Colin Wilson's Space Vampires was pretty interesting. And the movie had its moments, though I can't remember the title.

Thanks for the recommendation, just in time for cozying-in-the-dark-with-a book weather.

Also, like you basil, I think my huge mostly unplanned bed of cilantro may be finito for the year. But some are perking up today, so who knows?

Yeah, I think you'll like him. You can't go wrong with his Henry Thompson trilogy, either. Caught Stealing is its own kind of brilliant, as is the stand-alone Mystic Arts of....

You know what I just read in one sitting? Pagan Kennedy's The Exes. It cracked me up and it's a good pass-around book for anyone who has ever been in a band ;)

Christopher Moore doesn't do crime novels per se but his stuff kind of sound similar

Christopher Moore is one of my personal favorites, and I'm here to tell you, man, they are from different parts of the fiction universe, truly. But I'm glad you pointed him out because a thing they do have in common is they both include vampires in some of their books, and I think they're awesome. (Although the vampire ones are my least fave CM novels. I prefer Pine Cove ;)). Thing is, Charlie Huston will give you nightmares, Chris Moore will give you laughs. You might laugh a couple of times reading a Charlie Huston novel, I'd be surprised if you didn't, but it's truly not humor per se. I put Chris Moore in a category with Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, and I mean that as very high praise. He's a fantastic satirist.

But check Charlie Huston out and come back and tell me if you agree. Try The Mystical Art.... APL has all of 'em.
