ok, so, all I want to know is this: is there anyone else out there who really restricts what their kids get to see on tv? like, Noggin is ok but no Nickelodeon, because of the commercials? & maybe not so much of watching the shows with enormous commercial tie-ins, like Bob the Builder?

Know what I thought of, though? If I were home with my daughter all day on a regular basis, I bet she would see more tv and a wider selection of tv. I think maybe it's relatively easy to say no to tv because we are apart for a good 50 hours a week. So, there's that factor.

Personally, I watched shitloads of tv all my life (right up until I ended maternity leave and put the girl in daycare/school). And look how I turned out! ;)

We've got some bob stuff from the IL's. then my compulsive self finished off the vehicle set. But since we don't have cable I'm a freak. Ds gets to watch CBC's kids programs and they do have many product tie ins but none during the programing.

I don't know. If you feel good about the TV stuff during the day then it's all good.

and i agree with maliche's last post. if i were away more rather than with him 24 hours a day i might limit it to one episode of teletubbies. i wont even tell you what he actually gets to see!!

I'm a commercial fanatic too. And yes, what the hell is up with the pbs commercials of recent, that just sucks. Granted, I've sent them no money but it still sucks. I'm not restrictive with Isobel on tv. As long as there are no commericals, if she asks, I allow her to watch tv. Because of that she rarely asks. I grew up with my neighbors who were never allowed to watch tv or drink soda. My mom remembers hours a week where they woudl come over and watch show after show like zombies while sucking down coke because it was taboo. My longwinded answer...no you're not an oddball (at least not in a bad way) you're balanced and rational.
