Hm. it's kinda funny how certain phonemes appear only in certain parts of the world. For instance. The Japan/China/Korea area has no "Th" sound, while most of the world does not have the "mb" or "gb" sounds that many languages in Africa do ( Read more... )

haahaha.. i have been yelling about phonetics a LOT lately!
and how stupid most people are about them. D: people will ask me how to spell a word, and i will respond by first saying the word phonetically, syllable by syllable, trying to help them SEE that they COULD spell if they would think about it! BUT NO. they are lazy bastards and refuse to stop mangling the english language and just want me to spell stuff for them. HREE

and how the r/l/d/n in japanese can just seem like the same sound unless you know what you're listening to..

and how because my mum cannot roll her tongue at all, she can't pronounce most japanese words. XD

the thing is, I can pronounce japanese fine, and I can't roll my rs for crap.

But yeah, people are stupid, though I've just been spelling out my last name for people so I don't get it misspelled.

I've thought for a while now that "ng" is a cool sound to put at the beginning of syllables; too bad English doesn't do this.
