She's a pretty admirable girl with a strong character -
From what I know.. she
was previously from the gifted education program was the netball captain (either in RGS or RJ) was in the national netball team, before switching to running/triathlon
has the discipline and motivation to undergo rigorous training (imagine sleeping really early and waking up really early @ 430am to for runs) is able to train smartly and effectively
seems able to cook well etc
wah.. *_*
The other person who participated in sundown 09 whom I would draw inspiration from would be Dr Benedict Tan, the ex national sailor (who won gold medal in sailing)... as I've mentioned in my recent lj post. Imagine he picked marathoning not long ago and is able to emerge top 10 in recent marathons (despite a age of 40/41)!!
I was there with several other friends to cheer 2 others on.. Too bad I had something on early next morning and couldn't stay till the end.. Being there, seeing the runners, was a great motivation for me to join AHM. :)
well it's simply a mind over matter, nociceptors notwithstanding. the human mind is capable of telling the body to do amazing things, if it wants to. i remember doing CPR on patients for hours on end during my cardio posting, without feeling the strain coz i knew a life was in my hands... yet i can't hobble more than 1km without having to stop during a 2.4km! coz i really didn't want to run at all. it's all in the mind, dude.
My knowledge is bit rusty, but you are only obligated to do CPR after asystole and no breathing, for 20 min? And you can use the cardiac thumper or something?? If that's the case, it's amazing your dedication pushed you to perform manual CPR for hours. Hats off bloke!
i did the sundown too..and i love long races. =) the pain is there..definitely, but there is one thing that takes it away: adrenaline. Its like this amazing drug that you just have to get your hands on over and over again.
but then again, i guess our bodies aren't built for endurance racing, ironman or half ironman, marathon or half marathon, which is also why I guess nearly everyone I know who is into endurance racing has a whole list of injuries to boot.

I'm kind of excited for the upcoming run.. though at this point I still have to worry whether I can secure an off day/ leave for the event..

You did not sustain any injury, did you?

Haha! I've got a few injuries myself. Not a big deal really, considering everyone else I know has got some too.
