Useful books on writing

Here is a selection of books I have read recently:
The Writer's Guide to Writing Your Screenplay: How to Write Great Screenplays for Movies and Television
by Cynthia Whitcomb

Available on Amazon.com. I thought this was a quick, informative read. She cuts through the fluff (see Michael Chase Walker's entry, below) and presents some commonsense ideas ( Read more... )

Thanks for posting these reviews. I do have an issue with the link to Amazon.com though..

Being a book lover (I have over 4,000) it irritates me when people send people all the time to Amazon.com. Whenever someone is on the TV or radio hawking a book.

As a writer, it is the local bookstores that promote area writers, and provide places for readings. Heck even Borders does that.... I just hate to see a day when everyone is going to Amazon.com instead of their local bookstore.

I would be lying to say I don't buy from Amazon... I do. However I try to share the wealth..

AMAZON also gets all this free advertising.. and they don't need it..

That's my 2 cents for the day. Not a rant against you, but amazon..

So noted.

I am often crazy busy, so I sometimes (er, often) do my shopping from the comfort of my home, at midnight, in my PJs.

In fairness, I spent about 45 minutes looking for a particular item at Borders the other day, and I know I could have found it on ... well, you know who ... in much less than that. Maybe I'm not a good browser (as in, someone who likes to browse through books at the bookstore). If so, then that's yet another failing of mine in (what's become) a long list. So be it.

Oh, I won't link to ... them ... again. :-)

Hey.... I told you I buy some things from that A place. :) My point wasn't to go to Borders or B&N it was more to by from local booksellers who support local writers.

Anyway that's enough picking on the new guy.... Welcome...

:)

Have you read "Between the Lines" by Jessica Page Morrell? It's extremely good.

No, but thanks for the suggestion.

If you write you should check out the fictionwriters community, here on LJ. There's plenty to read, and if you dare, you can post your writings and get feedback.
