If you're not a pet lover, feel free to skim past this. For those that have wondered why we might expend so much worry and energy into a kitty please know this about us: My hubby and I have always thought that if you adopt or invite an animal into your home, that the furbaby then becomes part of your family. We believe in a lifetime commitment to ( Read more... )

Awww, poor Conner! I'm glad he's feeling better... though I'm surprised a cat would find an epsom soak soothing!

Our kitty, Amber, has an auto immune disorder and is on special food and prednisone. She's only 5 months old, we got her in July but I feel the same way you do, pets are not disposable they are family.

Lots of prayers going out for your little Amber. Con is also on a special prescription diet--we joke it's roughly per pound what a nice steak might be--but he can not take prednisone due to the past diabetes. When they came from the back and told me he was in a small plastic tub with tepid water and Epsom I couldn't believe it. He just sat there, apparently, for the techs with his paws over the side rim, waiting patiently. He was absolutely that miserable. Now we will see what happens at home! We're due for our first at home soak tonight. Five minutes only, but still. I'm always astonished at how well he does at the vets office and then he gets home and he meows and wriggles when we try to do a simple task like clip his claws!

Conner will be in my thoughts too. I hope the bath goes well. Five minutes will be a long time if he's stressed! I clip Ambers front claws when she's half asleep and snuggly, two toes at a time between lots of pets... she won't let me at the back paws without a fight but I'm letting it go for now since they aren't as sharp and I'm already torturing her to get the prednisone down her. I've been wrapping her in a towel to administer the pills, she hates taking them.

Yes, the food is expensive... the one Amber is on is $30. for a 5 pound bag.

Thank you. He definitely seems on the mend. He's still having a little tummy trouble, but we're thinking it may be a side effect from the antibiotic.

I hope Connor continues to do well. Not eating was the sign I knew Qt was ready to go, even though I'm sure he actually felt better for those 3 days since he didn't have the discomfort his IBS caused.

I know it's a very personal choice for each pet owner and I'm sorry about Qt. I talked with our vet about Conner's circumstances and she feels pretty strongly that this is something that can be resolved. With Con, it's a very slow process because it's best if we make one change at a time with him, since there are a lot of variables.

Qt died naturally, i was very adamant that he not suffer but I was several states away. My dad told me that Qt was acting like he felt good, and I asked when the last yime he ate was. At that point, I knew what was coming and had to break it to my dad to somewhat prepare him for something that was going to be devastating to his heart. Qt was severely declining for several years and lasted a full year longer than I thought I was going to have him, so my heart was prepared. Qt passed the next day.

Hope Conner continues to do well.

Epsom Soaks for cats? What will they think of next?

P.S. I've heard of the flooding in SC but was wondering how it was up where you are?
