We're living in a society of monsters

I've been doing a lot of reading regarding pornography, and in a broader sense, the desensitization effect it has on viewers. Specifically internet pornography, but a lot of this applies to videos, magazines, and other forms of media.

I feel so disgusted with the world. I'm pissed as fuck that I'm classified as a conservative nut for this rising ( Read more... )

pornography, objectification of women, internet sexuality

I agree 100% with everything you said. I actually had a porn related discussion with him the other day...I asked him what he uses to masturbate, and he uses porn, and I've seen the porn he has, and it's gross. I was totally bothered by the fact that he can actually use that stuff to get off. God, its gross. I was reminded of why I need to take more provocative pictures for him...anyway, in regards to your last question, I have no idea. Even when I KNOW I shouldn't, I still feel objectified sometimes or like I have to live up to some superficial standard... It's difficult. In any case, I still agree with you about how porn is terribly disgusting.

Porn is a two way street. From your perspective, there is a kabalah of porn enthusiasts which are forcing so many pornstars into degrading themselves. The other point of view is that pornstars are taking an unfair advantage of the fact people will buy porn, almost comparable to drugs. There is a certain portion of the population that almost needs sexual release, much like a fix; pornstars can also be see as exploiting this need and make a profit off of it ( ... )

Now, I said I had half a bone to pick with you because I somewhat agree some stuff you said. You claim that watching porn limits range of arousal (I am gonna assume you took the statement from published research) to those observed during porn. This shaping of female and male ideals of sexuality have existed for a millenia. 50 years ago, women who agreed to look after the house were the prime sex-catch, whereas men who wanted to same were losers and not fit for sex. Jewellerly and make-up for women and masculinity for men has been the primary sexual fantasy since the earliest archaelogical records. Pretty much everything around us shapes our sexual arousal patterns, porn offers a pattern different from the convention. So again, if a guy/girl through watching porn finds arm-pit hair a turn on, they are likely to expect this from their partner. This is not much different from 50 yrs ago, men expecting women to stay at home and women expecting men to be sole bread-winners. Things are better now since, back then, if you as a girl decided ( ... )

Maybe you should also 'apolagise' for your spelling?

You've obviously missed my point, almost entirely. Best of luck to you and your relationships, romantic/sexual/otherwise.

I apolagise for the spelling as well. It is also not my forte.

If I misread you, it wouldn't be the first time, and I hope I did.

Good luck at making peace with the world.

Sorry about the cattiness of my last remark. Regardless of your opinion, you deserve to be treated with more respect than I gave you.

I was annoyed at the things you claimed I had been arguing; most of them weren't what I was getting at in the least. It also seemed obvious to me that you haven't done much reading on the subject, which made me wonder why you would bother with some of the ridiculous counter-arguments you made.

I also lose a large portion of my respect for a person's side of view when they pull out the term "feminazi"...
