Just in time for Halloween, here's a fun cookie to make with kids!

Here's the basic recipe:

These are amazing! I will be making them soon myself. Just one question, what's shortening? And what would (if any) be a substitute? Can you "just" use butter?

Hmmm, shortening is like Crisco? Vegetable shortening. Butter doesn't work in this case, because butter keeps the chocolate soft, while the shortening helps the chocolate harden. I think it's entirely possible for these to turn out fine without shortening, though.
