I'm new to the US, having moved here from England about 18 months ago. I've done one Thanksgiving and I was surprised; I expected it to be a lot like the Christmas dinners I grew up with ... turkey and all the trimmings. But it was a completely different -- though still delicious! -- set of trimmings altogether.
So tell me. What are your Thanksgiving traditions? What always goes on your table every year? This year I'm going to be taking roast potatoes, the recipe for which is below.

Roast potatoes
My dad gave me this recipe, and he always cooks his potatoes in goose fat, which is something we wouldn't dare. If you want, you can always toss them in the juice from whatever meat you're roasting instead of oil.
4 medium potatoes
Dash of oil
Salt
Pepper
1. Scrub the potatoes thoroughly under running water and cut into thirds, then quarters.
2. Add the potatoes to a pan of cold, salted water; bring to a boil and cook for about 8 mins, or until soft. Drain, then shake to rough up the edges.
3. Place the hot potatoes in a large bowl and add the oil, salt and pepper; toss. You want just enough oil to cover the potatoes with a thin sheen, but no more.
4. Bake at 450F for about 40 minutes, turning once, or until golden brown and crispy.
