And aw, you weren't able to find any tickets for sale secondhand? Were the prices outrageous? I hope you were able to live vicariously through my report, at least a little.
I paid $500, heh. But I currently have a disposable income (which is not a luxury I will be able to enjoy for the rest of my adult life), and this was a one-time opportunity, so I forked it over.
I wish you could've gone, too. =[ I heard the crowd in Minneapolis was awesome.
Whew, long comment is long. Part I.uranus_samaMay 24 2010, 06:45:33 UTC
He really is that tall and thin in person, for the record. And it is fabulous. Also, strangely enough, I think I like the beard more in person, too. I usually really hate facial hair (and I admit to being somewhat mildly sad when it became apparent that he wasn't going to shave for the tour, because I am lame), but I ceased to notice or really think about it once he began talking. This is somewhat remarkable.
I AM TOTALLY WITH YOU 110% ON THIS. I'm one of the few people on the Internets it seems who isnt partial to the Conan beard. I too was counting on him shaving for the tour and was looking forward to seeing my presentable classy clean-shaven ginger man in person. And then he didnt shave and I was like ಠ____ಠ. But seeing it in person was a lot different... it looked normal and I forgot about it after a while. That said, I hope he decides to shave for the new show XD;;
I really liked the monologue, too. I know a lot of it was rehearsed for the tour, but the delivery never felt forced, and the whole thing was rather stripped

I hope he shaves for television, too. XD I was surprised at myself for not being more opposed to it as is, and I've even kind of gotten used to it.
I was nervous about the monologue for that specific reason. Monologues arent generally Conan's strong points unless he's riffing with Andy or the crowd. The format's just too stiff and conventional for him, I think. I hate to admit it but his Tonight Show monologues were often less than hilarious... I think lengthening the monologue and eliminating the second skit/gag after the first guest of the night was a bad idea since that's what people really came to know him for on Late Night. So I was happy that the tour monologue was more of a funny discussion than joke-jokes. And even though he's done this monologue a bajillion times now, you're right-- it didn't feel forced and he definitely didnt sound bored with it. His delivery is always awesome. Also, yes "intimate" is a good way to describe this ♥Yeah, the monologue on TTS rarely made me laugh, most of the time (and I think it was fairly

Yeah, the monologue on TTS rarely made me laugh, most of the time (and I think it was fairly apparent that Conan didn't write a lot of the material himself). This worked a lot better for him. Maybe they'll loosen the format for the new show? It's something to hope for. Yes yes and yes. While this whole fiasco with NBC was obviously NOT Conan's fault, that doesnt mean that I dont think his TS had a lot of room for improvement. At its worst it was at least amusing, but not LOL-inducing Conan fare one gets used to. I think he was too worried about being responsible for carrying on a franchise... he's used the car metaphor in interviews before, how when he first got Late Night it was like having keys to this great car that he was so sure he was going to eventually lose, and he figured he'd take it out for a joyride while he could and put a few dents in it. That kind of attitude really made it work and it's too bad because I think for TTS he kind of gingerly took the car around the block and then carefully put it back in the garage

You said it beautifully. From a fan perspective, I think people like us came in at a weird time - I feel like a poseur when I refer to Late Night because I watched it a total of two or three times when it actually aired (but that was partially my fantastically bad timing, since I tuned in during January of last year XD). I've historically been great at getting into things at the absolute worst times, though. CS, a decade behind all fads. It all started with the My Little Ponies and just got progressively worse.
I hope the new show will be more relaxed, too. At this point, I don't see how it couldn't be.
Whew, long comment is long. Part II.uranus_samaMay 24 2010, 06:46:25 UTC
Conan said "fuck", and I tittered. Speaking of hot. lol. I dunno I find it so thrillingly sexy when classy, well-spoken men swear, especially if they dont do it often. It makes it more intense or something. I dont even remember what the context was, but I remember swooning

YES. My mom actually laughed really hard after he said it, even though she claims to hate that word. I think it struck her as funny because it seemed so ironic, coming from him. And I was just like, "Yes, talk dirty to me." Because I'm a freak.
THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY TO END A SONG: STROBE LIGHTS AND CRAZY DANCING! That shit was amazing.
FFFF I DON'T EVEN. I was totally captivated and my mom gave me the face.
Also the people of Chicago need to get it together. I couldve done with a lot less yuppies & hipsters and more show geeks. SRSLY, YOURE TAKING SEATS THAT SRS FANS WOULD LOVE TO HAVE, AND YOURE NOT EVEN ENJOYING YOURSELVES FOR SOME DUMB REASON. That srsly bothered me. I wish I couldve gone to the Minneapolis show, I heard the crowd at that one was awesome.Someone else posted a trip report

It sucks that that sort of setting is basically the only opportunity the common fanthing has, though, so you have to be That Fan to achieve the goal.
Yeah... and I dont want to be That Fan, even if it means I dont get as close as That Fan. =/
No I asked Mo and E before I invited you over if they had any qualms with it. I let them know in no uncertain terms that I would hang with you elsewhere and they both didnt seem to care so.. I dunno. We had fun on some of the trip but on other parts it was a little awkward somehow. =/

Same here. But the squeaky wheel gets the grease, boo.
Awkwardness is unfortunate, but it happens (to me, often). I hate it when it's during trips like that, though. Being in an unfamiliar city and having separate agendas/levels of excitement kinda invites that, I've found.
so you thought you were rid of me, ehuranus_samaMay 24 2010, 06:51:46 UTC
Oh yeah: OH MY FUCKING GOD VINYL EARRINGGGGGGGGGGGGGS WHERE HOW WHY I WANT THEM. Other than shoes, Im known around these parts for my love of big unusual earrings. XD;;
Re: so you thought you were rid of me, ehcooking_sprayMay 24 2010, 08:30:35 UTC
I got them from a DA artist that I semi-know's Etsy; couldn't resist. I think she bought them as charms from the craft store and just attached fishooks to them. I can ask her where.
I love big unusual earrings, too. Well, you saw mine at the show. XD I think I just love things that a big and unusual, as a general rule.
