I have a confession to make. I. . . I like the new My Little Ponies.
I've been pretty disgusted with most of the new MLP stuff on shelves in the past year. (Which is probably A Good Thing, really, since I really don't need to invent more reasons to spend my not-so-hard-earned-but-not-so-plentiful dollars.) I mean,
G3.5 was creepy. Toy designers

That said, though, there's a reason why I'm not involved in the pony collecting community very actively. . . And that is because I don't want to associate with adult women who forfeit their life savings to obtain coveted plastic figures
well said. i mean, they're beautiful and i'm on the verge of becoming a fan, but i really hope there aren't people in the world like this.

And sadly, there are a lot of people in the world like this. =/ I get a lot of good-natured teasing for my pony obsession, but even though I own what seems like an INSANE amount of plastic to someone who's a non-collector, my collection is diminutive to the average MLP fan. Units that take up physical space can easily eat you out of house and home. Personally, I don't feel the need to own EVERY pony. . . I just keep what I like around.
That said, I encourage your ponylust. =P It's a good time to begin collecting if you're interested! The new toys are really cute, and there are only a few characters, so there's no "GOTTA CATCH "EM ALL" pressure. Plus, the show is awesome!

that sounds like me and my unread novels. there is no room for them and i keep getting more!
i started looking up gothic MLP and found some custom-painted ones. beautiful! but, you know, there's always an issue of time and adding more to one's plate.
er, i did get some sparkly MLP stickers and don't know what to do with the rest of them.
the show does look funny. unlike one horribly animated move from the '80s *shudder*.

Yeah, fanatics are. . . A special breed. It's a very fine line to straddle, though. Any collecting community is chock full of basement-dwelling types.
Funny that you mention the Cruxshadows. I knew a girl (who's actually a member of the CATS fandom, although she's on the fringe and it more into the RPing side of things) that loved them. Incidentally, she was also batshit. . .
Haven't seen the Tron toys! I really liked the film, though. Seeing double Jeff Bridges BLEW MY MIND.

As for the basement-dwellers, we have a couple in our community, too. *cough*Stasi*cough* ...And we all know who they are. :/ As for CXS, Rogue's a great guy but no judge of character. His wife IMO's got more than a couple bolts loose herself, and she seems to encourage unstable behaviour from what I've seen. My 2c. :/
The Tron toys are epic win. FINDING them, however, is dicey because they're really popular. Target had them on sale a couple weeks ago and the pickings were slim to nonexistent. All I have is the diecast Recognizer that I'm keeping MOC. It hangs on the wall above my couch. I'd collect them all, but no money. I can't say 'no space' as I keep finding 200x MotU stuff at the local antique stores MISB/MOC and somehow I can still cram all this crap into my closets. I have no more room for books, though. :(

Similarly I don't like to hang around adult women who forgeit their life savings to obtain authentic CATS costume pieces or their life savings going to see the show a millions billions times so that they can boast about who they know. YOU PEOPLE ARE MAKING ME HATE CATS AND THE FANDOM!!!
Boo.

oh, geez. as a Cats fan who has gone from teenaged fanatic to seasoned by-stander, even that makes me a bit sad. it seems like those types of people are giving the musical a bad name. i personally prefer the artistic types who research costumes to make their own, or indulge in fanart.
@fixerkitty
ooh? why would someone bitch about fans getting together to share something special? *some fans do not compute*
