That pretty much sounds like what I do when I get sufficiently bored. SUDDENLY THE WHOLE WORLD HAS BECOME NARRATIVE. I agree it's probably common for writers.

LOL, YOUR DREAM. That's just too funny.

Shame on you, CS. How can anyone live a complete life without seeing Back to the Future?

You piqued my interest with the thoughts of extended writing when reading/hearing a sentence, mainly in that, setting aside poeticism, it's a different writing style. Usually the extension is what I teach my students to avoid, with the adjectives and similes, however in poetry or poetic prose it's a great tool.

I'm curious: do you ever edit stuff out once you hear/read it?

When I get bored I write horrible fanfiction in my mind that involves whatever character I'm currently interested in doing the mundane thing that I'm doing. Today, Haruhi was working at walmart and dusting things with her swiffer when Tamaki wonders in to see what commoners shopping centers are like. I'm dumb. XP
