Hoorah indeed, Steven! The books become 'old friends' ... and some of mine are very old. The top bookcase shelf of my Chatterton collection has 14 'first editions' from the 18th century (1777-1798) and the second shelf has another 20 from the 1800's.
I have a bookcase of CHatterton stuff; another of CHile stuff; a third of CHildren; and I started a new one on CHina ... what is it about the "CH's" in my life that I love so much?
I'd like to find more of these moments in my own life. Sometimes it seems as though the disparate threads of family and future are fraying uncertainly. Hopefully the next few months will draw some of them back together.
You should take pride in the volume of your collected work, even if a significant chunk is getting pitched. I sometimes wonder how few or many boxes my life will one day fit into.

I try to encourage all people of your age that "it really will happen; it really will all work out". Geoff and Donna have waited for this magic moment for over 10 years. They were patient and never gave up their dream. The 'twenties' are such a drag, sometimes - a time to figure things out, get the 'bus fare' (a degree or two? Some career prep?) paid, lay the foundations for great things to come

I don't tend to collect many things any more, but books I keep accumulating. Alas, I haven't even read all of them yet.
And hoorah for family (and friends). :)
