Actually, I share the "a few good friends is better than many acquaintances" principle too.

I usually appear very cold and unfeeling to a lot of people, because basically, if you're just an acquaintance of mine, I'll help you if I can, but I won't go out of my way to do so. I... don't invest in these relationships, in other words.

But there's a slight handful of people for whom I will do almost anything for, even if it meant inconveniencing myself or taking on lots more extra work. Those relationships, I will invest in, and forgive almost anything. Whereas to an acquaintance... I'm terribly efficient and "corporate", almost business-like.
