Love this first chapter...Dr Sheppard??
(so I did not, in fact, whip out a 21,000 word story in less than a week ;P)....If you had done this I thought you'd have decided not to sleep at all recently!!
Great whump already. What will happen to him when they discover he's not a healer!!! Knowing our boy, he'll manage to charm them or pull a rabbit out of the hat! Although maybe not without a bit more whump on the way!!

Glad you like this! I wrote it so long ago, I barely remember this first chapter, but I do remember throwing Sheppard into a new and unfamiliar role and being excited at the possibilities there.

I came back from holiday to this- another great looking fic! I'm enjoying so far Sheppard being on his own and really felt for him when the medic was shot right next to him. Loved the scanario- civil war an ongoing rumblings. I think that even if they'd asked him if he was a machinery fixer or mender rather than a people one, John would have said yes to survive and buy more time. Hesh though- he's got an attitude problem....

This is a chilling scenario especially because it is so plausible as an aftermath of war. The world was built in such I was that I could quickly and easily see the entire scene. Lots of solid action to get the drama started, too. Paulsen was a great OC so his loss was really felt. Scary situation for John - outnumbered, separated from everyone and forced to take on a task that is beyond his skill and knowledge base - with high stakes. Very cool story idea.
