Revisiting a survey

Dec 13, 2009 13:16

Last year, I filled out a "how'd the year go" survey that quite depressed me. Since my life has changed so much since then, in so many better ways, I thought I'd revisit that survey as a nice end of year conclusion for 2009 (a few weeks early, I know). So here goes:

1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Traveled to the west coast.

2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Well, I'm not sure if I made any hard and fast resolutions, but I do think I've made more of an effort to eat better/exercise. I haven't seen too much payoff, but El and my coworker both say it looks like I've been losing weight. I'm going to hopefully keep at it and following the little rules I've made for myself.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Andy and his wife had a little boy, whom I hope to meet while I'm in RI this xmas time.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.

5. What countries did you visit?
None, but I'm expecting that to change this coming year.

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
A wedding :)

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
April 20th, I started my new job. Labor day, El proposed!

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
The new job! I get to do everything that I went to school for, they appreciate me, they gave me a raise, and I even have my own office-- something I could only dream about at my last job.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Hmm...I can't even think of one.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
No, I think the most suffering I had was when I ate too much cheese.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My new camera & video camera--I got to capture my family at the cape, plus our time in Seattle.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
I'd say Elliott, for as always putting up with me so well, and loving me so much.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
I don't think anyone's, although I got a good laugh out of someones utter lack of social graces.

14. Where did most of your money go?
student loan payments, as it will for the next 15 years.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The Seattle trip (for good reason), and then our wedding, which I still have several months to get really really excited about, and dress shopping in less than 2 weeks with Blair :)

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
This year has been all about the uncomplicated pop music for me, and songs that I could walk to and keep my energy up; so, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus's Party In the USA, Britney Spears's Womanizer & If U Seek Amy. Taylor swift's You Belong with me. It's like my music taste regressed in age.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder? Happier, much much happier.
thinner or fatter? about the same or a smidgen thinner. Not much of a difference.
richer or poorer? Richer in that I make more money, but poorer in that a lot of it is going to the wedding so I have less saved up. Plus, my student loan payment increased by $150 a month.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Saving money. Exercise.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Less bitching, less spending.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
We'll be spending xmas eve with my family and driving to either PA or MD to spend Christmas with El's family.

21. How will you be spending New Year's Eve?
I'm hoping as we always do, with good friends in Ithaca.

22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
I reached a new level in the video game of love.

23. How many one-night stands?
none

24. What was your favourite TV program?
Glee has definitely been a fun addition.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not that I can think of.

26. What was the best book you read?
It was also a year of uncomplicated reading, so lots of Jennifer Cruise.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Just allowing myself to enjoy music that I'd normally be embarrassed to been seen listening to.

28. What did you want and get?
A better job, an office, a proposal

29. What did you want and not get?
a new pant size.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Away We Go

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
On my 26th birthday, my parents came up to visit and we showed them all our wedding ideas. My mom struggled through, but my dad loved the museum venue because then "When people are standing around for hours on end they'll have something to look at."

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
The new job.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
"Work Appropriate"-- no more ratty work pants, and tank tops under the shirt so not too much cleavage.

34. What kept you sane?
Taking walks (outside when it was nice out, or inside on the treadmill when it got cold)

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
It would still have to be David Tennant. Maybe the Puck character from Glee.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The reinvestment act-- my workplace has gotten quite a bit of ARRA funding.

37. Who did you miss?
My old coworkers, now that I hardly get to see them.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
The new set of coworkers

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
In time, you'll achieve everything you want--but be wary, there will still be sadness and loss that you can't control.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
BATTLEFIELD! (that was for you, Tabs)
