It's crazy, but up until recently I thought it was my somewhat eclectic interests that were keeping me from finding a girl friend, but recently several of my friends have met girls in crazy places who have the same wild interests as them. I don't have any helpful advice, really. All I can suggest is to stop thinking about yourself: How you appear to others, how to describe yourself, etc...

I find that people are most interested in ME when I really don't give a shit what they think and I'm just having a good time. I know relaxing around people is hard for you, and that's where my advice comes up short. I don't know how to even begin helping you work through that. But you are cool when you open up, and you are freaking hilarious when you aren't second guessing yourself. I think that people are attracted to those qualities in other people. Maybe just having that knowledge, the knowledge that you are pretty awesome under your armor, will be enough to help you step out from it a little more often.

One step at a time. Just keep working on expanding your comfort zone. Step into the unknown or uncomfortable just a little bit at a time until it becomes comfortable for you. Then do it again. And again until you're comfortable most of the time. (no one's always
