So many shows. So little time to deal with pop-up ads generated by free image hosting sites. Finally, after much tribulation and heartbreak, I have uploaded a few of the adventures that I have had the good fortune to stumble upon within the last few weeks.
When I first realized that The New Pornographers were playing at Club Soda in Kalamazoo, a mere hour drive from our lovely GR, I nearly creamed myself. Little did I know how awesome the show would actually be. I called up Bob and he was obviously more than down to accompany me. Once we made it inside we were treated to an amazing performance by fellow pornographer Kathryn Calder's band Immaculate Machine.
Happy-pop keyboard? Check.
Male/Female harmonies? Check.
Utterly infectious and danceable? Yes SIRRRRR.
Samples of Immaculate Machine off of their CD Ones And Zero's:
Broken ShipPhone No. After being exposed to the pure happiness that is Immaculate Machine we got to watch part time Pornographer and full time Destroyer Dan Bejar play in his band.
It might have been the lack of keyboards, or perhaps I was just spoiled by the greatness that I was exposed to before and after their set, but I wasn't really able to get into Destroyer. I do appreciate Mr. Bejar for his amazing work as a pornographer though. Speaking of which, guess who was next? AAAAAAH! That's right.
AC Newman and Dan Bejar just rocking out to an amazing tune of their own creation.
Stage right keyboard guy busts out the blow-a-ma-phone while Neko Case gets down with a very lucky tambourine.
Dan continues drinking while Kathryn tires of playing such a large keyboard.
Did I mention how much I love Neko? Hmm. Just in case, I'd better say it again. Neko = <3
Okay. Now down to business. If any of you have not heard this band's music yet, it's time for you to click on my links. No joke.
A sample song from each of their amazing albums:
Letter From An Occupant off of Mass Romantic
The Laws Have Changed off of Electric Version
Sing Me Spanish Techno off of Twin Cinema
Fast forward a week and I find myself in Kalamazoo yet again, this time with my good friend and roommate Chris Taylor. Who were we seeing this time? Lets see if you can guess.
That's right. Mr. Folds is a genius.
He even plays the maracas. Sort of.
Mr. Ben directs the audience as we stand in for the saxophones and trumpets. Don't know what I'm talking about? Grab this sample off of Ben Folds Live.
Army A few more tunes from our friend Ben's new CD Songs For Silverman:
JesuslandLanded So, were we psyched? I don't know. You decide.
Finally, last week I made it out to the the DAAC to see my favorite East Lansing band, the Casionauts. But wait, who else was on the bill? Mr. Who?
Mister Squid. Yeah. They were, interesting, to say the least. Before the show I had met a new friend, the amazing Miss Miller. We both agreed that the Squid had decent beats and even a smidgen of funky synth, but why did the singer have to keep yelling at us? What did we ever do to him?
Eventually the Casionauts found their way onto the stage. Why is it that I just love keyboards so much? I must have some sort of disease.
I would have taken more pictures but I was too busy dancing in circles. Go figure.
I would totally link up some Casionaut samples, but alas, I am without. I'll talk to some of mah peeps and we'll see what I can do. Check back soon and maybe I'll have a surprise for everyone.
Until next time, music is love. <3
