What is the Gospel?

Thank you God for being huge, come and wreck us even more, challenge us so hard that we fall down and must reevaluate our vision of Your purpose. Show us how to advance The Kingdom of God. Can anyone show me where the Word says that we are to go and preach that Christ died for our sins, and that God wants to bless us? I want to know exactly ( Read more... )

I really enjoyed it. I will be going more often.

Anyway:

The Great Commission:

"But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. 17And when they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. 18And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:16-20

I wonder then, as a church, are we preaching the correct Gospel? I am thinking we are not.

The Gospel of Christ is often watered down to fit today's modern easy-believism. Just assent to the fact that Jesus died for your sins, and you are saved for eternity. You receive a "get out of hell free" card, and buy yourself some ripe "hell insurance."

The Bible calls sinners everywhere to repent, and have complete trust in Christ for salvation. There is no such thing as a fruitless salvation, or a sinning believer. Holiness is not an option, according to the plain dicate of Scripture.

The main problem is that people want the benefits of the Gospel without making the sacrifices. But Jesus said we are either for Him or against Him, that if we do not bear good fruit we will be cast out of the Vine, and that we must suffer with Him. The lukewarm will be cast out of His mouth.

Jesus wants a present relationship with us right now - with the blood cleansing us from all unrighteousness, and holding us up above failure. If we trust in Christ and His power by faith, we don't need this modern, fake Gospel.
