possibly in need of an intervention

If you haven't noticed, I've been on a bit of a reading binge. I do that -- get all compulsive like -- from time to time.

Continuing my Stephenie Meyer kick, I picked up The Host at the bookstore and read it cover-to-cover yesterday. I liked it more than the Twilight series -- if you can believe that's possible!

Now, I'm looking for something else ( Read more... )

reading, books: the host, real life

Anything by Terry Brooks is good. I LOVE his Shannara series and there are quite a few if you read the whole ever-spanning collection. The first two in the series (The King of Shannara & The Sword of Shannara) are a little slow for me but The Elfstones of Shannara wins all.

I've been putting off Terry Brooks for years now; maybe it's about time I cave. Thanks!

Go with the Running with the demon set rather than the Shannara minefield, plus they are more ont eh 'modern fantasy' side of things than classic 'high fantasy'. Seriously who comes up with these classifications?

Word and the Void, that's the series name, just goes to show you I have way too many book series on my shelves!

I think I'm definitely looking for more modern fantasy right now, as opposed to high fantasy. lol.

The Time Travelers Wife. Seriously moving and amazing with a sci-fi twist to boot. Also ignore the oprah book collection tag on the front It's so mucj more then an oprah book.

And soon to be a major motion picture staring Eric Bana and Racheal Mcadams!

Ooh, both suggestions look interesting; Peeps definitely has my attention. I was looking at Westerfield's stuff in the bookstore; I thought about picking up Uglies. Have you read that series too?

What about Generation Dead, by Daniel Waters? That one looked cool, but coming off Twilight, I wanted to go in a different direction for at least one book. Lol!

I was looking at the House of Night books too! I stored them in my brain for later purchase!

I recently got hooked into author Anne bishop, great afternoon reads :)

Though I can not recommedn The Dresden Files enough, not for those that love High Fantsy, but quick, smash and grab, totally crazy books - worth a go (plus Thomas is just great)

Hmm what else have I been reading, um, my 'yearly book challenge' tag may help.

I knew you'd have some good suggestions, voracious reader that you are!

Anne Bishop already lines my shelves... I'm waiting for Tangled Webs to come out in paperback before I snag it so it matches the rest of the set I have (I'm weird like that).

The Dresden Files, really? That might be a good idea; I am looking for books that I can just plow through :)

Try http://www.bookdepository.co.uk as it has free delivery and it may have the paperback versions (and that new one The Inivisible Ring, though the pbs may be a touch bigger than the ones you have (I have Tangled Webs that it blue and a white Dreams Made Flesh that is shorter - weird)

Have you heard of GoodReads? If not, you should totally check it out and be my friend (my library). I'm kind of an obsessive compulsive list-maker and this sight has me addicted.
