I'm cleaning out my email (can you tell?) and a couple of people recently reminded me that I still had not reposted the rules for Emperors, the fortunetelling betting game played with Tarot cards. The rules were one of the casualties of the hack, but fortunately when Cartographer's Craft was typeset it was included as an appendix ( Read more... )

I love empererors :) It's one of the games (like apples to apples or fluxx) that my hallmates and I'll end up playing once we're already quite , which makes for hilarious interpretations of cards.

Okay, so getting past being named in the post of someone who is Internet Famous, I have a story.

I was talking to a coworker about how I had stumbled on my near-forgotten tarot deck recently, and how I was having fun reading (my cards totally called me a bitch the other day. I'd have lol'd if there weren't people sleeping in the next room), and eventually mentioned Emperors.

Two words into my explanation, she responds with "No, I've heard of it." And my reaction was, of course "But it was invented for a fanfic!" Which she sort of knew, but from the sound of things, she's a couple people down the Being Taught Emperors chain, and doesn't actually know the person who got it straight from the Sam.

But man, going "HAY LET ME TELL U BOUT THIS THING FROM A TINY CORNER OF DA INTERNETZ" at a coworker, and getting "LOL I KNOW ALREDY" in reply? SO WEIRD.

Perhaps it was baked to celebrate the opening of an architectural design firm in the Victorian British Empire?
