I have reached a milestone in my teaching career: A former student has requested to friend me on facebook. I am of mixed opinions. If you add students, put them in a special designated group. If you do that, you can go into your privacy settings and block that group from seeing any and all photos of you, statuses you write, your work info/interests, etc etc etc. You can also preview your profile as a certain person to see how your profile looks to that person (you must add them first before you do that). That way you can be connected to that person but they don't see anything personal. That's what I do.

i did this with a coworker of mine who's snitchy. of course, anything that goes on the internet is basically public - but this precaution helps...

make a professional filter, and don't let them see your photos.
