I feel sad - I feel happy for the gay and lesbian people who got married last time who can feel relieved and for those who want to be able to marry in future to know that as of now they CAN, but there will be all manner of people freaking out and praying and rallying to fight it.

I grew up Catholic as you know, and generally find Christian people to be decent sorts in the main, and it makes me SO ANGRY that these extremists are working so hard to take away a *civil right*. As I said to emrinalexander, if the sanctity of marriage is what they crave, then they should campaign to have ALL civil benefits related to marriage removed. Marriage should be solely religious. No more health benefits for spouses, tax breaks, etc. Because while those are extended ONLY to married people, and SOME people who WANT to have conventional marriages are denied that right, it is a breach of human rights IMO.
