Yup. Time for my annual Academy Award write-up! This year I'm in pretty bad shape as I haven't had the loose change to get to the movies much (or the time!) but I'm going to catch up with at least three or four of the films I haven't caught yet. The noms had a few big surprises and a few disappointments as well.

You wanted me to write you letters but I'd rather lose your address )

Sadly, I haven't seen any of the BP noms. So Frost/Nixon was really that good, huh? You were right about VCB, so I'm thinking of checking it out since you have a 1-1 track record with me right now. :-)

almost. since. ya know. I haven't seen tCCBB.
also, I really enjoyed Frost/Nixon. I'm a sucker for political intrigue, and I also find interview style movies really engaging. But it's not nearly as awesome as VCB. Then again, I'm a Woody Allen fanboy and a Scarlett Johansson lover.

If I had to make a list of people to never piss off, Batman and Clint Eastwood would both be high on that list. Way to go, Oscars! :-P
Not so big on Woody Allen, but I was pleasantly surprised by VCB. And I too have Scarlett fever.
Added F/N to the to-do list. Langella + good word of mouth = now interested.

I think the nom for Best Screenplay for In Bruges is very much deserved. I think it's been under-appreciated by almost everyone and everything.
I thought Wall-E wasn't nominated for Best Animated? Clearly, I was misinformed - and gladly so, because I was angry about it. It needs to win that so bad.
Same goes for Kate Winslet. By now I really don't care for what performance she wins it, she just needs to. But that she's nominated for a Holocaust film is funny when you remember the episode of Extras she did. Did you see that? I keep thinking of it and can't help giggle.
I can't wait to see Frost/Nixon, this is completely my cup of tea. Will drag my boyfriend to the cinema this week.
