Been some fun times at Chez Co. Let's go in order.
Last week took the monkeys to the final Devils pre-season game (aka final affordable game) vs the Flyers. Bookworm was home, got us these great seats for $10 a head, and the Devs won, yay.
Bookworm: Why does it look like Luke is standing on his tiptoes and Shrek and I are crouching?
Me: Because Luke is 5'10" and you are 5'2".
Bookworm: Oh.
Then on Friday I was a Big Girl and went to McGuire Air Force Base to go grocery shopping, as my little Fort Monmouth and its little commissary was closed last month. So weird to be on a big, active base (actually a joint base with For Dix and Lakehurst Naval Air Station.) Driving along, grocery list in hand, past the enormous C-17's on the tarmac... felt a little out of place. But got my milk, darn it.
More hockey this weekend, as Shrek was in a Challenger hockey tournament about an hour north, and Luke played out in Stephanie Plum territory, about an hour west, then both played 30 minutes south on Sunday and back an hour north for Shrek. But I got to meet and hang out with one of my cougar crushes, hunky David Clarkson from the Devils. Those of you who have ever had a conversation with me will not believe when I say he is so chatty I could barely get a word in. I will not bore you with retelling the entire conversation but there were many "awesomes" and promises of a better game today and he was completely candid in his embarrassment at getting taken down quickly in a fight that he picked Saturday night. ("I know, that was tough! That never happened to me before!") But I had so much fun talking Devils and hockey with him, ("I love our new coach!") and he was impressed with the special needs kids playing hockey, so that was a blast. (Shrek was not impressed. "He gets too many penalties." Thank goodness he didn't say that to Clarkson, because with his lack of filter, that was a possibility. He did tell Clarkson "my mom's a BIG fan of yours.") Heh.
So even though it was painful to watch Saturday night's awful Devils loss to the Flyers, especially while surrounded by Flyers fans at an ice rink outside of Philly, the Shrek tourney was a blast, and hanging with a cute, chatty NHL player was a good time.
