COUNCIL - VOL 2

Aug 20, 2008 11:10

As I said a little while ago, I'd gladly arrange an election if the people in Luceti would think a city council would be something we need. I do believe it would help us work as a community better, help us turn this city safer and better organized ( Read more... )

A council is like... a trainer, right?

I think Mewtwo would be great! He's powerful and smart and--

Oh wait, no, he doesn't like persons that much...

Mewtwo? I'm afraid I don't know them. You think they'd be interested in stepping up as a candidate?

Uhm... no, I don't think so... He said he doesn't want to be in a pack with persons.

You're making a uh, uh, gove-er-ment, right? That's like a pack?

Ah, government is like a pack leader. I suppose a lot of us here consider us a pack already. But pack without a leader.

That's a pretty chaotic pack, I think.

You know, the reason why we're doing this is because the only strength we have against Malnosso is ourselves. If we don't work together, we have no chance of surviving. And we can't work together if we don't have some kind of centralized leadership.

I... have been considering this for some time. I personally support the notion of a mayor more than I can a council position -- I find councils to only to be useful if there is, in title or in practice, one over-arching official over the others with which to rest the final say.

...That said, while I have yet to personally speak with her, in the absence of proper nobility on the whole, I need to propose Princess Ruto of the Zora Tribe. In addition to that, I recommend some member of notable local organizations -- thus, while I cannot support Mello for I know he will not be... agreeable, to say the least, I would put forth another figure from his, for want of a better term, 'unit.' If forced to name someone I would choose Kei Takishima. [Poor Mark, he's gone]

...I would also put forth Light Yagami, though he appears to be MIA for the time being.

On principle, I must disagree with you. However I'm glad someone is raising this point. Considering the variety of different races and people in this place, it would probably be best to divide power between several council members. Perhaps in a crisis situation there could be one over the others, perhaps someone outside the council completely.

It's Mark, right? I'm Watari Yutaka. Nice to meet you. I'll put those names on my list and see if I can reach them to ask if they're interested. Thank you!

Yes, Mark. I'm a tactician by trade, and freelance. It's a pleasure to meet you, Sir Watari.

On principle, I must disagree with a council. It's a given fact that there is one ruling power who should, if they are living up to the power which was vested to them, support their people. It's... common practice in Elibe. Even so, councils to serve as representatives and/or advisers to this main position would be invaluable.

...Oh yes, and one more name. I've never spoken to him personally, but a man by the name of 'Van Grants' has also caught my attention as a viable candidate.

Pleasure is all mine, Mark. ♥

Ah, a perfect ruler, I'd say a perfect dictator would be the best form of ruling there is. But as it is, there is no such thing as a perfect man. So the whole idea is a mere fantasy. If we'd find a person who could hold that position with the support of even half of the population, that'd be the ideal situation. As it is, however, I doubt that's possible. The differences of opinions on the most profitable course of actions are as wide and varied as the differences of species and origin around here.

Hm. I'll put his name on the list as well. Thank you.

Hm...

I must admit that I have my own misgivings on this as well, and I have for a time, though I agree that stability is needed.

While it may work for the general stability, there is some truth to the fact that some of us know so little about the rest. Some of us may be more familiar than others, but in a community this diverse, there are a lot of factors that are involved.

I suppose it may work fine and well for a temporary solution, but we honestly don't even know how many of us are in favor of such a thing to begin with. I worry for the problems that may appear the more involved this becomes.

In truth, we're not hopefully building a lasting foundation of a government here. Just a temporary focus of influence. A group of people who could work for the best of the community as long as we're forced to stay here. Of course I assume we must arrange a new election in half a year or something like that. But for now I think we just need to start with something or we'll be forever stuck in doing nothing. I know it's not a perfect solution, there probably isn't one to begin with. But I hope it's a start.

I'm aware of that, though unfortunately, not everyone is going to see it as such unless it is presented directly as such. I have a feeling that even with all the calls for stability, instead of rallying, they will be the first that are turned on in a time of true crisis. Though I digress.

Progress, of any sort, is certainly what's needed. Having something to go by would be a step up from nothing. As it stands, I am in favor of a council rather than a mayor. No one person in a group this diverse is equipped to deal with this much, to be certain.

It's not going to be a perfect solution. The flaws will be many and varied. But as long as we don't stop to gaze too hard on the details, or let it cement too official status, I'm sure we'll get some kind of result and then it's just a matter of seeing it grow better with every change.

Thank you for your input. Also, I think your name came up as a possible candidate for the election. Are you interested in such a position?

Oh oh, I wanna be on the council! Pretty please~?

... well, I mean, I do have a lot of info for everyone, anyway. I think I'd be useful enough!

It seems I've missed the previous entry on the matter, I apologize.

However, a council may be the best idea to maintain order and to begin work on new plans. A diverse group may be best, to ensure that the council does not sway too far in one direction or another; which would also mean that I would have to reject the idea of electing a mayor. Giving one man too much power would be disastrous.

Oh no, don't apologize!

Thank you for your opinion. It seems to be the more popular one at the moment. And I, for one, fully agree with it. Perhaps in crisis situations we could select one person to stand at the top of the command chain, just for the sake of practicalities.
