The Ashes Part Three - Glory, glory

We won! Wonderful last day, with a young bloke from England showing so much class and fight that I honestly thought they might just pull it off. (The main character in 'Fever Pitch'? The one who is absolutely pessimistic about, and completely caught up with, his soccer team? That's me.) But in the end we got there, and it's just the best Christmas ( Read more... )

I was watching (and worrying just a little that we might not pull it off) and yes it's a bloody fantastic feeling. And to do it 3-nil with 2 tests left to go makes it even better.

Plus, an added bonus for me, we did it in my home town.

Congrats Aussie on a very well deserved win. Now just to hang on to the damn Urn for a few years!!

Oh, I was worried, alright. When young Stokes was going, and they only needed 180 odd with four wickets in hand... all the history said no, of course, but that's when records are made. And if the English had done that, I couldn't see Oz getting the momentum back. Well done, Nathan Lyon! once we got Stokes it was all over.

I was delighted it was in Perth, because it meant I got home from work in time to watch the post-lunch session!

I've been a Pup fan from the moment I saw him playing with Tugga as an exuberant, joyous, ridiculously gifted 23 year old. I'm so pleased for him, and for Brad Haddin. And Steve Smith, he seems to have the right attitude, too- just needed to know what it's like to win!

Oh, Sydney would be great! Yeah, we've had four days of 40 degrees plus. My little house couldn't cope, and it's been oven-like at night. But cooler today, thank goodness.

I hope you get to watch another Aussie victory... we tend to drop the ball a bit (metaphorically) there. Or maybe it just seems to be the place where we lose dead rubbers.

Happy Christmas to you and yours!

I've just seen the end of the fourth test. Depressing. I arrived in Sydney this morning and was hoping for a miracle in Melbourne. No such luck.

I honestly thought you might get it... Believe me, a very nervous night/ morning..

Welcome! I hope you have a lovely time here. I wish we could catch up, but I'm a fair way away (and broke, sadly). Not fun as an English supporter, but then, you've had three years of celebrations. I wish people would stop bagging the English players quite so much, though- I have no doubt that they're trying their hardest. How about credit to the opposition?

Oh, just learned there's fires on the nearby hill...
