Nine years ago, I sat at a desk just as I do today.
I sat in a room filled with peers, and today I sit alone.
Alone I engrossed myself in the fictional adventures of The Swiss Family Robinson, but today the pleasantries of fiction escape me.

Even though it was a horrible tragedy, it was heartening to see how the nation was able to bond together to get through it. But now, everyone is back to fighting over differences and playing stupid, petty blame games.
It may be naive, but I hope that we are able to put aside our differences once again, and not have another awful event like this be the cause of it.

I agree that it was really amazing to see everyone come together like we did. I think that is why I started writing this piece. I still remember September 11 like it was yesterday, but everything feels very different now.
If that is being naive, I'll be naive right along with you. The greatest sense of unity I have felt since September 11 was election night 2008. And even then it wasn't the same because not everyone voted for the same candidate.
