I don't even know if anyone is here, but I need a quick place to post a recipe that can be put onto Pinterest, so here I am.
I've been thinking about maybe writing here again, but not now.
Someone else's image! So that Pinterest will let me post this. Ha.
This is a really tasty homemade version of Thai iced tea, without the dyes that are in the loose Thai tea you can get around here. Adapted from
this recipe.
1 quart water
1 or 2 star anise
6 cloves
1 six inch cinnamon stick
1 cardamom pod
4 tablespoons ceylon tea (also known as orange pekoe)
1/2 cup coconut sugar
1 or 2 teaspoons orange flower water
a splash of vanilla extract
Place spices and tea in a brewing container. Boil 1 quart of water, pour over tea/spices, and steep for 5 minutes. Strain into another container, add the coconut sugar, and let cool to room temperature. Stir in the vanilla extract and orange flower water. Refrigerate until chilled.
Serve with coconut milk, sweetened condensed milk, or as-is.
If you want a stronger spice flavor, steep the spices in 2 cups of water for 5 - 10 minutes, then add the rest of the water, the tea, and steep for 5 more minutes.
