So after I got back from Lisa's graduation party, I was a bit annoyed. I mean, delphine85 has a Theater degree, so it's not like I'm criticizing the degree. A piece of paper is a piece of paper. But for Lisa to have squandered and wasted her first two years as an Early Childhood Development major by changing her major to Theater because it was the only ( Read more... )

I wouldn't be able to critique the choice, given that I switched majors twice and just barely finished things out.

Frankly, the actual subject of the degree is mostly irrelevant for most arts degrees. The BA is just a check mark on the do we interview' checklist. Science degrees really aren't much better apart from the somewhat larger likelyhood of finding a job in something closely related.

Unless you're doing an Engineering or Commerce degree, it's fairly doubtful that you'll end up doing anything closely related to your area of study if you stop with a Bachelors.

Lesee, her folks took out a mortgage, so she didn't have to pay for any of this, right?

Lot easier to waste money when you're wasting other people's money.

On the other hand...
Nothing really wrong with switching Majors - my Associates is in Medical Technology, my Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, and my Master's in Management...and these days, I'm a high school teacher.

On the Gripping hand, I paid for that education myself - well, me and everybody's Uncle, but I figure there was a whole lotta sweat and more than a little blood that paid for my VA benefits, you know?

It wasn't the choice of major that bothered me, it was her reasoning. I mean, I understand the desire to not come home at all. But to change your major to avoid transfering to a college closer to home because your parents are going bankrupt putting you through an out of state school annoys me.

I paid for my own education as well, and it meant more to me when I finished everything up. IDK, maybe I'm being too pissy about a minor issue.
