Creative Writing classes rise or fall on the merits of the professors who teach them. If it's a workshop, I really recommend trying to get in, because even if it's a bad workshop, you'll probably learn something. Make sure the teacher isn't One Of Those who thinks the only good book is one that will never ever sell--they tend to like literary and hate genre, and they'll make you want to slit your wrists.

Definitely write something new. You can try re-writing a few things from HS, but I think you'll be surprised how much you've improved since then (the "oh good lord, I used to actually write like this?" groan is part of the growth).

Also, if the prof accepts poetry in the portfolio, submit song lyrics. I'd go with your newer/non-fantasy songs like Asphalt Ferryman, The Rescuer, etc.

I second leeflower's suggestion. Maybe not even going to far as re-writing or all that, just going through and fixing any sticky spots you might find, or adjusting any parts that don't suit you so well anymore.

Also, SONG LYRICS!!! Yes yes yes yes yes!!! *bounce*

*hug* I know you'll do great. Here's hoping it's still open!
