I don't think they are necessarily tacky, but I sure as hell wouldn't wear one! I mean, really, I'd have enough to worry about without having to either worry about the damn thing staying up or having to keep track of the extra set of underarm boobs having it tight enough would create. Yuck!
Well, I don't know if they're tacky, but I certainly don't like the look of them. I look particularly bad in strapless gowns, I think most women do, it takes a very specific body type to pull them off and most women just don't have it. ;)
They aren't that bad. It really depends on how they are constructed and how much they show. I'd say that a sleek, slim silhouette is the way to go if you want to go strapless.
If it were me, I would amend your statement to say "Non-overbust strapless gowns are tacky."
I mostly agree with you. I just don't like them personally, but I do have to admit that some people look fabulous in them. The more tasteful ones. The ones that don't also have plunging necklines... the ones that don't have pointed cups that seem to float on top of the breasts and don't seem to move WITH your body.
And there are puh-lenty of pics circulating around the net of brides popping out of them because they aren't wearing the right undergarments (read not wearing any).

I think it is because of my Catholic upbringing. Weren't allowed to have a wedding in the church if your shoulders were not covered.

Makes sense.
