Superman Returns!

When just asked by a coworker, I couldn't recall if it was cyanide or arsenic that left the poison victim's breath smelling of almonds (it's cyanide), but I immediately knew that the poison Socrates took was hemlock. This seems telling, but I don't know quite what it tells!

In other news, I celebrated my massive case of jet-lag by finally seeing ( Read more... )

Does that "not yet" there mean you're writing one?

I heard on the radio a couple of days ago that Singer is a go for a sequel, but I don't have anything to substantiate it.

Oh, I'm sure Singer the rampaging fanboy is a go -- I don't know if the studio will be, is all!

Hmmm. Check out svilleficrecs, valentinemichel, and this list. I haven't had the time to read all of it, but I think there's some OT3 stuff...

according to reports of his talk at Comic Con, he's planning to go ahead with a sequel in 2009, while planning a small movie (or long vacation) in the interim. My concern is that he's blithely announcing it while the movie itself is, um, not doing that well in the b.o. From what I can tell, it's going to be lucky to break even for the studio even with DVD sales and other ancillary profits. Superhero flicks rarely do as well overseas as domestically (it's one Hollywood genre, like musicals, that don't seem to travel well), and SR is doing very mild business at home for a summer blockbuster.

I think Singer is sure he's making a sequel; whether the studio agrees with his outlook is something else entirely.

It actually had an ok overseas opening, and it has gone into the black, insofar as any Hollywood movie does (insert long discussion of crazy Hollywood accounting methods here as needed). But it's not POTC, and I think that may be what the studio wants in order to make #2. It's interesting that he's describing the sequel as an opportunity to go all "Wrath of Khan" with the mythos -- Star Trek: The Movie was a disappointment on many levels, but Khan was a huge critical and commercial success.
