So, rather than post my own review of the show so far, I've been surfing other people's, and I keep seeing the complaint that Amanda Peet is too young to be playing the head of a network ( Read more... )

Thank you. I don't know why there's so much hate for Peet, but the bit about her being "too young" for the job really bugs me, as I don't think it would even have come up if a male actor had been cast in the role.

Of course, a male Jordan would have made the show even slashier! :)

Heh. Don't think I hadn't thought that! *g* But then we'd have had the complaints about the lack of females, I suspect....

Fair enough - but my remaining complaints about the show still stand. ;)

Jordan isn't the head of the entertainment division. She's the head of the network. Big difference.

Eh. I'll worry about that when they show Jamie dealing with an issue in the news division. In the meantime, it seems like just a way for him to have no level of management between Jamie and Steven Weber's character.

I mean, it's not like the real Sam and Josh and Toby would have had the broad range of responsibilities within the White House as they did on the show, either.

Jordan was even named Jamie in the draft of the pilot:

Oh, thanks for the confirmation. The show is way too "look, this is based on my life!" for my tastes even with the new names!

My problem with AP as Jordan isn't her age, but that she doesn't appear smart enough to be believable in that role to me. She comes across as too cheerleader/bimboesque to me. I also don't think her acting is as good as the rest of the cast.

Really? I think she's subtly badass, in the way that women working in male-dominated environments so often have to be.
