Gah, me and my kids still have yet to finish The Penultimate Peril. I have to say, IMO, that lately the books have been tough going. I think the last one I really liked was The Ersatz Elevator.

I think there was a little dip after that one, but that it's picked up since. The feel of the stories has changed somewhat -- less self-contained -- and more about the end, which won't be the big happy resolution you can't help wanting for those kids, even though he's been warning us for all 13 books that it won't happen.
