Ouch! Have you been chewing everything on that side of your mouth? Maybe Taht's the problem? I hope you feel better soon. *hugs*

Some people have suggested that the "unauthorized homage" was mean, or unwarranted, or otherwise inappropriate. But, if anything, I see it as a tremendous tribute.

That's the same reaction I had. I was very surprised when people thought it was a criticism of Xanthe's fic, which I also really liked.

They're very different stories, with very different purposes, it's true.

It always amuses me, in an ironic kind of way, when fans get all proprietary and huffy when another fan uses their ideas in some way. Because really, that fuckin' IS the definition of fandom. Morons.

Hey, let's be fair -- the one comment Xanthe herself made about it (on thecuttingboard, since deleted by the mods since writers aren't allowed to post to threads about their work) made it clear that she was totally OK with other people playing with her toys, and was generally far, far more grown-up than I think I could have been under the circumstances.

The people who have been getting huffy are doing so on their own dime.

I didn't phrase my reply correctly, sorry. I wasn't implying that Xanthe was one of those making proprietory claims. I was referring to those in fandom who get upset over the whole 'playing with other people's toys' whether they're the source of the toy or not. The double standard of some fans when it comes to fannish works is what pisses me off.

Again, I apologise for the misunderstanding.

Fair enough! Sorry I got a little huffy there myself.
